This Friday is National Workplace Wellbeing Day. A day for employers and employees to celebrate and promote wellbeing in the workplace.
I think it’s truly wonderful that employees can get access to workshops, information and services in their organisation, which can positively impact their wellbeing, both inside and outside of work. For me, this is a positive effect of the current blurred boundaries in the workplace – I can go to work and learn skills to positively impact my personal wellbeing – amazing!
There are also, however, some negative impacts of the current blurred boundaries between work and personal life. For most of us, our personal life is entering our work time and our work life is entering our personal time. This means that some of us are working longer hours which means our work life is taking over elements our personal time. We have developed a habit of ‘not switching off’ and ‘always being on’. We are checking emails in the evening and even at the weekend.
A recent study by Irish Life Health* found that;
o 57% are constantly thinking about work, even on days off
o 46% work outside normal working hours
o 21% are ‘always on’ caused by increased use of technology and remote working
I do believe there is an element to which this has always happened, but, the lack of other outlets and activities due to Covid 19 means we are more inclined to think about work and actually work during our personal time.
Setting healthy between our work and personal life boundaries are critically important.
Thankfully, there are some tips which can help us to create better boundaries between our work and personal life. This week I will share some of my top tips for setting healthy work and personal life boundaries.
I would love to try to implement the tips which appeal to you and see if it makes a difference to your boundaries.
As always, please let me know if you have any questions or comments on any of the above.
I also offer 1 to 1 coaching in this space. If you would like to set up a complimentary exploratory call, I would be more than happy to arrange that.
