Creating the future starts in the factory

How many times did you find yourself thinking about how cars will look like a couple of years from now? It seems that today is your lucky day! You will get to know the unit that can answer all your questions better than everyone else.?

Born in 2020, planning the cars that will be seen going around in six to seven years is – as the name says – The Planners’ job. Designing the future means a considerable part of this unit’s work and the sheer volume of information involved gives way to a long life cycle of operations. When and how the car pieces get to each factory, how they will be assembled, which equipment is necessary to contribute for this human-machine effort are just some of their tasks.?

Starting with the equipment itself, this unit helps, in a central platform, to plan, approve and manage acquisitions of which equipment and machines will be needed to build each car and, thus, know the financial impact that could come from it. This can go from small plastic pieces, such as the ones that align windshields, to giant robots that help workers place glass windows. Also, for those who work in factories, it is essential to know exactly where piece A should be installed and what force screwdriver B should apply when used with certain screws. The Planners developed the tool used to plan it all, even how many workers would be necessary to accomplish the task.?

Talking about our factory workers, this unit is also responsible for the risk assessment regarding ergonomics and the physical impacts that workers could suffer throughout the whole process of building a car. A first in the automobile sector, it is used in plants and offices, although its main users are the factory assemblers. In this sense, BMW, partnering with the Leipzig University of Applied Science, aims to prevent health issues and long-term lesions across the whole company, and this project especially helps to achieve exactly that.?

There are different moments, both in the car planning and assembly, when we need an analysis to validate whether processes have been well defined, or if the overall quality control is compliant. This unit also provides exactly that, as well as a history of actions, risks found, their solutions and responsibilities, allowing teams to have an accurate idea about the quality of the assembly processes, as well as check and engage on the risks' workflow.?

Essentially, The Planners are here to help design the projects from the very beginning until they become real. So, with them, you’ll find plenty of space to innovate and test new ideas.?
