Creating Entrepreneurs At Scale Holds The Key to Solving The Unemployment Crisis

Millions are spent on enterprise supplier development (ESD) and enterprise development (ED) in South Africa however it needs scale. Most programmes have only a few businesses (10 to 100) that they develop at a time. But if our plan is to address unemployment in South Africa, such small batches of entrepreneurs will not address the ticking time bomb of unemployment on which South Africa currently sits.

I am not advocating for the dismantling of current structures or make negative comments about the industry and it's players. We need to work together to solve the unemployment crisis and my opinion, we need to add a rapid process at the beginning of the development process that is quick, cost-effective and proven to create entrepreneurs.

During the Covid-19 lockdowns in 2020, The Human Entrepreneur took 57 unemployed youth from impoverished parts of Johannesburg and used our method to help them to build a business in 21 days without any funding that generated enough profits to become self-sustaining. In that time, 30 businesses were created, of which 73% were woman-owned. Seven months later, 53% of those businesses were still operating and employing people without continued coaching or mentorship - just from the exposure to our training programme.

It does not have to take 12 months, a lot of money and resources to create a profitable business. At The Human Entrepreneur, we help unemployed people start a business without providing ANY external funding in 5 weeks, and it makes enough money to sustain themselves financially. We CAN create entrepreneurs and jobs in 5 weeks or less. That is essential because people are hungry now.?

With our current training capacity, we can create 500 businesses monthly and scale that to 1,000 in 30 to 60 days. Over 6 months, we could expand to 10,000 businesses monthly. And this leads to many great benefits.
