Creating the Digital Future: 33Bondi's Initiatives and the ADHA's 2023-2028 Strategy
In the wake of the Australian Digital Health Agency (ADHA) unveiling this week of the?National Digital Health Strategy 2023-2028?and its accompanying?Roadmap, it's clear that Australia is on the cusp of the healthcare evolution we're all demanding. The ADHA strategic vision aligns perfectly with the work we've been doing at 33Bondi, where we focus on leveraging digital innovation to transform healthcare. Our projects, particularly with a national retail pharmacy organisation boasting over 120 chemists, exemplify our commitment to modernisation, interoperability, and the delivery of patient-centric solutions. It is not by chance that we've already delivered on the ADHA's vision - we read their strategy five years ago and chose to be front-footed.
In the last 24 months, we have delivered applications that outpace significantly larger and deeper-resourced organisations in health and tech. The result is that we have helped modernise one organisation in one healthcare sub-sector. In the broader context, we know this is small biscuits, but if we can do it, other healthcare organisations can, too. Although larger enterprises are typically less capable of working with the agility and velocity of high-performing technology teams like ours, there is every indication that they are trying.
Digitally Enabled Healthcare
Our journey with the national retail pharmacy organisation highlights our dedication to creating connected, safe, secure, and sustainable health and wellbeing services. By modernising their digital infrastructure, we transitioned most of their technology from on-premise solutions to the cloud, utilising a hybrid of cloud providers with data centres in Australia. This ensured compliance with stringent security standards and significantly enhanced operational efficiency.
Empowering Individuals
A cornerstone of the National Digital Health Strategy is emphasising person-centred care, empowering Australians with the correct information and tools. Our work in developing an omnichannel health services platform, including a pre-store health assessment application, embodies this principle. Introducing FHIR (Fast Healthcare Interoperability Resources) standards has paved the way for seamless integrations within the national health system ecosystem, ensuring that individuals can access their health information when and where they need it.

Inclusivity in Access
The strategy's focus on inclusivity resonates with our project to expand the reach of pharmacy services through Health Direct. By integrating a health service booking system into Australia's pre-eminent public digital health resource, we've facilitated equitable access to health services nationwide. This initiative ensures that all Australians, regardless of location, can access the health services they need promptly and conveniently.
Data-Driven Decision Making
Lastly, introducing FHIR standards in the online prescription feature represents a leap towards a data-driven healthcare future. This feature allows customers to order medications conveniently from home and ensures that the highest levels of safety and care are maintained. By leveraging readily available data, we're helping to inform decision-making at the individual level, enhancing the quality of care and patient outcomes.
Conclusion
As we reflect on our work and its alignment with the four critical areas of the National Digital Health Strategy, it's evident that 33Bondi is not just participating in Australia's digital health transformation; we're actively shaping it. By being strategic experts at what we do, we have readied one organisation in the retail pharmacy sector to deliver integrated patient experiences within the healthcare ecosystem. It is one example of how we're contributing to Australia's digitally enabled, person-centred, inclusive, and data-driven healthcare future.
Our commitment to these principles goes beyond mere compliance; it's about driving real change. We are passionate about partnering with more healthcare organisations to meet the current needs of the healthcare sector and anticipate future ones. In doing so, we will continue to build a healthcare system that's more efficient and accessible but also more responsive to the needs of all Australians.
