Creating a digital-first experience with the STANLIB Onboarder - an NML case study

The process of onboarding financial clients for STANLIB tax-free savings accounts was traditionally slow and time-consuming. This discouraged new clients and increased administrative and overhead costs for financial institutions.

In offering a solution, we developed a web application that allows new clients to apply for a STANLIB tax-free savings account online. Our focus was on creating a user-friendly, efficient, and digital-first experience.

Collaborating closely with STANLIB, we designed and built a single-page onboarding web application. Our custom-built solution streamlines the application process, making it more accessible and convenient for users.


The project's featured highlights include:

- A sleek, single-page application (SPA) design for a seamless user experience.

- An interactive graph to project investment returns.

- Simple options to submit South African ID documents via file upload or real-time photo.

- SVS verification for ID documents ensuring security and compliance.

- SMS notifications to keep users informed throughout the process.

- Save and resume functionality, allowing users to complete their application at their own pace.

- Google Tag Manager integration to track and enhance web application usability.

ASP.NET Core MVC was chosen for its diligent server processing capabilities and integration with Silica's Web API.

The front-end was built using vanilla JavaScript and jQuery, a strategic choice to meet strict time constraints without compromising on quality.

Google Tag Manager was employed to monitor user interactions and refine the application experience.

The application features a three-layer architecture: presentation, application, and data layers.

The presentation layer, built with JavaScript and jQuery, offers a responsive interface. ASP.NET Core MVC forms the application layer, handling business rules and data layer communication. The data layer, provided by Silica, acts as the backbone, supporting Line of Business (LOB) services and data integrity.
