Creating Collaborative Environments that Inspire Teamwork

Creating Collaborative Environments that Inspire Teamwork

Setting a team up for success starts with creating the physical environment that naturally induces the kind of collaboration you want to see. After a couple of years on focused, individual workspaces, we're seeing a gradual resurgence of collaborative environments. An office that lacks collaborative spaces, lacks teamwork! When it comes to your team, your output will mirror your input, so if you're looking for a team that works well together, start by creating the physical environment that encourages healthy collaboration!?Here are 4 types of collaborative spaces that are most important to integrate:

Brainstorming spaces. Sometimes a formal meeting room isn't the place to get our best ideas. Brainstorming spaces have a slightly less formal feel while still emphasizing professional collaboration. Whiteboards, comfortable seating and side tables that are all easily moveable work together to support group brainstorming.

Strategic collaborative spaces. Somewhere between a conference room and a brainstorming space is a meeting room that is dedicated to more formal, strategic discussions that have a relatively non hierarchical layouts.

Connection spaces. It's important to include spaces that foster unplanned and unstructured personal interaction. These collaborative spaces have a relaxing, informal and cozy atmosphere that offer an environmental break from the work desk while inspiring conversation.

Presentation & formal meeting spaces. Naturally, all offices need a space that is dedicated to formal meetings and presentations--these spaces often have an emphasis on leadership and incorporate media tools such as screens, projectors and whiteboards.
