Creating Challenge In The Classroom

Creating Challenge In The Classroom

Morning everyone, happy Saturdays! It’s been a busy week for me. This week I saw some amazing work to embed mindset - without talking mindset. Confused?

I was in a primary classroom doing science. The teacher had all of the learners hooked, predicting what would happen at the end of the experiment. Careful attention was paid to ensuring that the learners were paired up and working in mixed ability groups. The teacher modelled high expectations throughout. Everyone was curious - especially me! Who knew what you could do with food colouring and alka setlzer!

If we get the challenge right for our learners by focusing on engagement and developing their appetite for learning - drawing on what motivates them.

We are motivated when we are curious; have challenge; choice and we are feel that it is within our realm of competence.

Too often we rush to reveal the answers instead of exploring ideas; scaffolding concepts; making links with prior learning; developing their imagination and taking our learners on a journey that develops their meta cognitive thinking.

Remember the greek word eureka - I found it! Create more eureka moments for your learners. What have you done this week to go all eureka?
