creating a carnival of markets – which operate as a single organism

…the new model that makes the existing model “obsolete”

The main point being made in this article, is that in Contemporary Health Tourism "business", the “cluster” has been replaced by the “ecosystem”, which is associated with:

The superiority of the “ecosystem” over the “cluster” is clear and indisputable – and no doubt, as awareness of this fact becomes more-widely known, we will start seeing the “existing model” being replaced by the “new model”.

For a number of years, it was popular (trendy) to name industry “groupings” as “clusters” (often by those who had heard the “term”, but had no – or little – knowledge and understanding of the term – as a concept and practice).

The concept & practice of “Industry Clusters” – a.k.a. Porterian Clusters - came into prominence by the writings and teachings of Michael Porter (who authored the book titled “The Competitive Advantage of Nations” (1990) – and which has to do with “geographical economics”.

But now, even Porter, (the “father” of industrial clusters) is championing the “ecosystem-centered market strategy” approach to development.

?

BTW, being a Michael Porter “fan”, “clusters” is something I had written quite a bit about – and I had championed their “establishment” – in the context of Health Tourism – until James F. Moore came along with his book "The Death of Competition: Leadership and Strategy in the Age of Business Ecosystems".

In the way of background information, I let it be known that the phrase “a carnival of markets which operate as a single organism” was originated by John G. Singer ( https://www.dhirubhai.net/in/johngsinger/ ), to whom due attribution is extended.

John is the Executive Director of Blue Spoon Consulting, the global leader in Strategy and Innovation at System Level, which specializes in constructing new industry ecosystems - and its mission is to lead the next cycle of evolution in healthcare.

See the consultancy website: https://www.dhirubhai.net/company/blue-spoon-consulting/ .

As John has pointed out, the Integrated Economic Ecosystem solves the Market Fragmentation Problem (which is responsible for inefficiency) through Integration.

the “ecosystem” approach to “development”

…influenced by observing and noting the “sustainability” of biological ecosystems

The “ecosystem” approach to “development” was influenced by observing and noting the “sustainability” of biological ecosystems.

More precisely, the sector-specific “ecosystem-centered market strategy” was designed to emulate nature’s approach to sustainable success.

As in nature, much of it is about businesses “coexisting and coevolving” within the Integrated Contemporary Health Tourism Economic Ecosystem.

This approach to designing a “business environment” is known as the “ecosystem-centered market strategy” – a “concept & practice” introduced by James F. Moore in his book "The Death of Competition: Leadership and Strategy in the Age of Business Ecosystems".

Moore argued that traditional views of competition, which focus on individual companies competing against each other, are no longer valid in today's business environment. Instead, he argued that companies need to view themselves as part of a larger ecosystem of interconnected organizations.

By working together with other players in the ecosystem, companies can create more value for customers and gain a competitive advantage.

Moore's book was influential in popularizing the concept & practice of “business ecosystems”.

Since then, the concept has been adopted by many companies, including Apple, Amazon, and Google. These companies have all built strong ecosystems of partners that help them to create and deliver innovative products and services to customers.

The superiority of the “ecosystem” over the “cluster” is clear and indisputable – and no doubt, as awareness of this fact becomes more-widely known, we will start seeing the “existing model” being replaced by the “new model”.
