Creating Boundaries

Welcome back to all of my wonderful readers. I’m here today with my latest tip for making your dash count. This tip is all about creating boundaries. It is extremely important to create boundaries in your life. The boundaries I’m going to talk to you about today is the boundary of your time. Your time is so precious and you need to protect it. How do I protect my time? The most practical example I can give is that everything you want to do in a day, a week a month - put it down in a calendar. It could be a hand-written calendar, a planner, or even a google calendar. Go from there and protect that time.

Setting boundaries with a schedule

I make sure that the people that matter - my daughter, my friends, my clients - really know what I’m up to. When you’re in business, if you can show to your colleagues or clients that you have time dedicated to certain things, they will respect that and appreciate the time you can give to them. Otherwise certain people may take your time for granted, and think that you can drop everything at any time just for them.

I schedule time with my daughter, and I schedule time with my friends when I get to see them. You have to do this, as it helps you to be more present. You can give your full attention to that thing or that person. We can really protect our time by having it blocked off and scheduled into a calendar.

Avoiding distractions

The other thing I have found is that once you’ve let your family and friends know what you’re doing, then they start to respect that. There are other ways to protect your time too. How do you spend versus invest your time? For me, TV is a no-no. I didn’t even want to put a TV in my own house. It’s a standing joke between my daughter and I, because if there’s something I do want to watch I don’t really know how to use the TV! Is that a good thing or a bad thing? I don’t know for sure, but I don’t watch soap operas and I barely watch the news. If my daughter is watching something I might stop by and see what’s on, but I definitely don’t carry the remote or turn on the TV. That for me is time that I can be doing something that I believe is more constructive.

Valuable conversations

I have another thing for you to consider. When you are spending time with your family or your friends or colleagues, what kind of conversation are you engaging in? Keep those inner circles of people very positive.

Be around positive, uplifting people so that when you are using your time, you’re using it in a healthier way. We absorb negativity very easily, so surrounding ourselves with positivity is a better way to spend our time.

I want you to really learn how to have healthy boundaries. So remember, number one, think about that calendar now, and how you can keep track of your time and share that with your friends and family. Number two, turn off those distractions. And number three, when you’re going to meet people, make sure it counts for something. Make sure you’re adding value in your conversations.
