Creating a Better Way
This week we are launching a new website that combines the high quality services provided by Atlas Van Lines agents throughout the US and Canada and the newest technology to compete with the $39 billion self-storage industry. Our vision is to replace the self-storage garage with real service. More households are turning to storage as a way of extending their home with our residence becoming more central to all of our lives. We are going to take a DIY industry and turn it on its head by providing full service for about the same price. We will come to the home pack it, pick it up, store it, and deliver any part of it wherever and whenever a customer chooses. For those that want to still do a portion of their move we provide next day delivery on a box kit that provides not just boxes but enough packing material to go with those boxes. Surprisingly this is pretty hard to really come by on the internet today.
Doing Right While Doing Well
In addition to partnering with Atlas and its agents we have partnered with the Salvation Army to provide customers the opportunity donate a portion of their goods while they are making this pivot in life. The donations will end up in a Salvation Army store creating jobs for people looking for a second shot at life. The donation also allows the customer a tax deductible receipt for their belongings while giving back to their local community.
Creating the Airbnb of Storage
Uber and Airbnb did not change their industry by starting another taxi company or hotel chain. They built great technology that was focused on the customer and combined it with a supply chain from resources that already existed. This is the same model that GetStored subscribes to.
Rather than building facilities that become an eyesore negatively impacting foot traffic for other businesses in our urban areas, GetStored leverages existing warehousing space specifically built for household goods. We partner with THE premier moving companies around the world that have state of the art storage facilities created for household goods and use their excess space. The result of this gives us over 20 million feet of capacity in North America and next week we will have an announcement about entering the Australian market.
Time will tell whether we are successful. I do, however, know that the customer always wins. Those companies that keep that at the forefront usually defeat those that assume things will never change.

4 年Best of luck, Jim! Sounds like a great concept, and I'm interested to see what you have planned for Australia. I also love that you've partnered with the Salvation Army, definitely makes it easier to declutter (speaking as a semi-hoarder!).
