Creating articles with ChatGPT: New Jobs for a New Age

It's a thousand pages, give or take a few

I'll be writing more in a week or two

I could make it longer if you like the style

I can change it 'round

And I wanna be a paperback writer

Welcome to the Perfecting Equilibrium Vlog! This is the third in the series New Jobs for a New Age: Creating articles with ChatGPT, and reviewing the results. Please let me know your thoughts on the video; we’re planning to improve! Transcript below, for those who would like to read through. Plus links!

Greetings, Chris Feola here with another edition of The Perfecting Equilibrium Vlog New Jobs for a New Age. For the next couple of weeks, we're gonna focus on?ChatGPT?and the new Bing search with the ChatGPT front end. And we're going to look at using these to write articles, write blog posts, or to assist in those tasks.

I'm breaking this into a couple of videos because some of my friends have mentioned that it roughly takes me 500 words to clear my throat. And these 15-minute videos I've been doing are a wee bit long for the age of TikTok. So we're going to cut this down.

Today's video is gonna be fairly brief, too, because there's gonna be some reading involved in it. So we're gonna start by putting ChatGPT to the sort of ultimate “Can you replace a blogger? A journalist? A writer?” test. So we're gonna ask ChatGPT to write an article from scratch and just see what it does. “Write a 750-word blog post about the riots against the introduction of the e-Naira and their impact on the rollout of Central Bank digital currencies worldwide.”

Now, there are a couple of things about this prompt that I've given it. One, I'm sort of cheating. I wrote an article roughly that length — well, I guess it was closer to a thousand words, but give or take - and published it this past Tuesday.

So I have a pretty good idea of what the results should be. But that's the eyeball test. That's Predict the Past. That's giving a new algorithm a chance to work with known data and see if it produces and matches the known results. So we're gonna see how it does against the research that I did in the article that I wrote previously.

Second, I've sort of also tried to give it a few stumbling blocks here. So I've put in very specific keywords like e-Naira - I hope I'm pronouncing that correctly, by the way - without mentioning that it is the new Nigerian Central Bank digital currency.

Now, I'm not going to read you this entire article in the interest again, of not putting out videos that are hours and hours to watch. But I will say that it's okay, but it's not very good for a couple of reasons. One is I did try to give it some help by pointing ChatGPT at its strength, which is to summarize things that are already out there. So an update on the e-Naira is merely asking it to go and gather - search, as it were - different Articles out of the news feeds, and put them together into a summary.

ChatGPT keeps saying the riots in Nigeria raised concerns. Through the choices that its programmers made, it doesn't have a point of view. It doesn't take a strong point of view. It really doesn't end up saying much except there are riots and riots are concerning. Well, there's a news flash!

But the other problem is that there are no references to where any of this came from here.

You should judge for yourself though. So what I'm going to do is I'm going to put this ChatGPT written story below the transcript so you can read it. I'll also put back a link to the article that I ran last Tuesday about the same subject. And then we can compare and contrast.

Also, because it's the way I work, the article I wrote has links in it to original source material showing you where it was from. So you can judge the accuracy of both articles based on those sources.

Next week we will use the new AI-based Microsoft Bing search in a way that I think is more appropriate, which is to use these sorts of summaries in smaller fashion - a paragraph, or maybe two, to bolster backgrounds in articles, or to bolster your arguments with notes from the past.

That is a look at writing a blog post with ChatGPT. I hope you enjoy this. Please subscribe and…Feola out!

Feola article on the worldwide implications of the e-Naira riots

ChatGPT article on the worldwide implications of the e-Naira riots (Unedited)

On October 25, 2021, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) announced the introduction of the e-Naira, a digital version of the Nigerian Naira, aimed at facilitating financial transactions and reducing the cost of currency printing and management. However, the introduction of the e-Naira sparked protests and riots across the country, with some citizens expressing their dissatisfaction with the government's handling of the economy, while others feared that the digital currency would negatively impact their financial privacy and security.

The riots against the introduction of the e-Naira have been characterized by violence, looting, and destruction of public and private property, leading to loss of lives and widespread disruption of economic activities. The government has responded by deploying security personnel to contain the riots, but this has not deterred the protesters, who continue to demand that the introduction of the e-Naira be halted.

The riots in Nigeria have raised concerns about the potential impact of central bank digital currencies (CBDCs) on the stability of financial systems and the broader economy. CBDCs are digital versions of fiat currencies issued and backed by central banks, and they are designed to improve the efficiency, security, and inclusiveness of financial transactions.

The riots in Nigeria highlight the challenges that central banks face in introducing CBDCs, particularly in emerging economies with weak institutional and regulatory frameworks, high levels of corruption, and a history of economic instability. CBDCs require significant investment in digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and regulatory frameworks to ensure their adoption and proper functioning.

The riots in Nigeria also underscore the importance of effective communication and public engagement in the rollout of CBDCs. Central banks need to engage with all stakeholders, including citizens, financial institutions, and regulators, to address concerns and build trust in CBDCs. Effective communication can also help to reduce the risk of misinformation and disinformation, which can fuel social unrest and undermine confidence in CBDCs.

The impact of the riots in Nigeria on the rollout of CBDCs worldwide is unclear at this point. While the riots may slow down the introduction of CBDCs in some countries, they may also provide valuable lessons for central banks on how to address the challenges and risks associated with CBDCs. For example, central banks may need to invest more in digital infrastructure and cybersecurity, develop effective communication strategies, and engage with stakeholders to ensure the successful adoption and rollout of CBDCs.

In conclusion, the riots against the introduction of the e-Naira in Nigeria have raised concerns about the potential impact of CBDCs on the stability of financial systems and the broader economy. Central banks need to invest in digital infrastructure, cybersecurity, and regulatory frameworks, as well as engage with stakeholders, to ensure the successful adoption and rollout of CBDCs. The riots in Nigeria also highlight the importance of effective communication and public engagement in the rollout of CBDCs, which can help to reduce the risk of social unrest and build trust in CBDCs.

Chris, I do like the vlog. I had fun playing with Dall-E 2 and midjourney, and almost as much fun watching artwork ideas roll by in the channel. For ChatGPT-3, I have found it very useful for writing biographies for dogs in our animal rescue. I set the stage for what I want to accomplish and then provide the pup's details and it produces a great result. Cheers!
