Creating an active and competitive workforce through CRDB Bank Super Cup.
Last Thursday, we officially launched the second edition of CRDB Bank Super Cup, a sports tournament that brings our employees together from across the network to compete in football and netball.
As the late Nelson Mandela, the first President of South Africa, said in 2000, "Sport has the power to change the world. It has the power to inspire and unite people in a way that little else does, and it speaks to youth in a language they understand."
With a network of 3600+ employees across the country, it is imperative to keep them healthy first and foremost, engaged, and competitive. We believe if our sales officer, Tecla, from Southern Zone, meets with Frank from Lake Zone, they will be able to share experiences regarding sales.
This year, 12 teams will be competing in football – four from the Head office following the departmental merging and one team from each of the seven zones, except for the Eastern Zone which will be represented by two teams because of the largest number of employees available.

On the other hand, eight teams, one from the Head office and one from each of the seven zones, will compete in Netball.
Reigning champions.
During the inaugural season, the Retail Banking team known as SimBanking FC was crowned champions in football after beating the Eastern Zone team known as Internet Banking FC in a penalty shootout following a 0-0 draw.
Furthermore, the mighty Tanzanite Queens from the Head office clinched the first ever netball trophy after overcoming the aggressive Ulipo Tupo Queens from the Lake Zone by 31-29 points in Arusha.
The group stage draw event.
The level of competition shown by players during the inaugural edition gave us the urge to make this year’s edition more engaging and experiential from the get-go. We started by hosting a live draw event for the title contenders to get to know their opponents on the group stage.

Our vision was to have a very transparent draw by allowing everyone to understand the process behind, in the spirit of fair competition. With that in mind, we hosted a live draw event at the Auditorium last Thursday, which was also live streamed through Microsoft Teams to allow employees from all over the network to be part of.

Together for more.
It was an eventful evening at the Auditorium, where we also had a chance to speak to last year’s best players, who shared their experiences and expectations for this year.
?“We are the defending Champions, and the fact that the tournament is launched here at the Head Office means we won’t allow any other team to take the trophy away”, said the confident Tecla Sungwa, who was the last year’s best player in the final match, and the skipper for Tanzanite Queens (Head Office team),who are the reigning Netball Champions.

Furthermore, we launched our 2022 theme – Together for More, which embodies our purpose of coming together to achieve more than the usual job descriptions that guide us.
To expand more to the theme, our very own CRDB All Stars, a group of employee singers, performed the official song in front of the audience.
Work-life balance
Our Chief Operating Officer, Bruce Mwile, who was our Guest of Honor for the event, stressed the importance of this tournament to the Bank. The fact that he also plays for Tanzanite FC, a team formed by Executive Office, Human Resource, BCM, Finance, Company Secretary, Internal Audit, and Innovation, raised questions about how he managed to balance his schedule despite being one of the busiest people in the building.

“If you are passionate about something, you will always find time for them. I consider football not only as a way to keep myself fit and competitive but also making new friends and business leads,” said Mr. Bruce, who led his team to finish fourth in last year’s tournament.
The opening match is expected to occur on 7th August 2022 in Dar es Salaam. Stay tuned for more updates regarding the tournament and players’ expectations for this year.
