#CreateYourSuccess: Someday is Not a Real Day

I’m a big believer in falling down 7 times, but getting up 8. I try to relay the importance of being resilient and having the will to win when dealing with my Shark Tank companies, talking to entrepreneurs, or interacting with my team at Herjavec Group.

Now, I want to share my advice and tools for success with all of you. Here is my monthly roundup of advice and resources for those who strive to create their own success.

If you know anything about me, you know I'm absolutely crazy about entrepreneurship! I respect the hustle, the pain and the passion entrepreneurs have for their business. It's not always easy - in fact, it's never easy - but starting and running your own business can be the most rewarding life experience. In this section, I'd like to share some of my advice for the entrepreneurs out there...

One thing I hear over and over again from people who want to start a business is “I’ll do it someday…Someday.” I don’t like that approach one bit and here’s why – someday is not a real day ! Nobody cares about what you’re thinking of doing, only what you have started. If you want to start something that you've been putting off - do it now !

LinkedIn Live with Chuck Runyon

Recently, I did a LinkedIn live session with Chuck Runyon, the CEO & Co-Founder, of Self-Esteem Brands (Anytime Fitness, Waxing the City, The Bar Method and Basecamp Fitness). Chuck and I talked about leadership, when Chuck realized his brands were on track for global success, and advice for adapting with a growth mindset! My favorite quote from Chuck - "Work on your business, not in your business."

Lessons for Leaders

For a business leader, one thing never goes away - learning. No matter how big or small your business is, you can never stop learning. Here's my big takeaway for leaders this month.

Speak Like a Leader | Simon Lancaster

Leaders need to inspire action and if they cannot communicate well with their teams and colleagues, they will not be effective in their role. To be a leader - you need to speak like a leader. Watch this video by a world class speech writer, Simon Lancaster. He provides some great techniques you can use to become a better speaker.

Step Into the Tank

After years of being on Shark Tank, I’ve seen many different types of people come through those doors. As a Shark, we’re not just investing in the business – we’re investing in the entrepreneur. We look for their passion, knowledge, preparation, and charisma. In this section, I want to highlight the entrepreneurs and businesses that have impressed me in the Tank and I ask them for the top three lessons they learned from their Shark Tank experience.

Bad Birdie

Business Owner: Jason Richardson

Bad Birdie designs standout golf apparel that’s comfortable without compromising on performance or good vibes. Their goal is to make golf more fun - mission accomplished!

1. Never give up – The process to get on Shark Tank took a lot of work and time. There were plenty of opportunities to back out where I felt too overwhelmed to actually pitch on the show but I’m so glad I pushed through that and was able to close a deal!
2. Be prepared – I spent a ton of time rehearsing the pitch and running through different scenarios. All of that practice helped me to close the deal on the show.
3. There’s always room to grow – I prepped many questions and responses but immediately after walking out of the Tank, I realized I had so much more room to grow on how I talk about Bad Birdie, how to negotiate, how to think about the business differently, etc.

What I'm Reading

Leaders are readers. I'm always reading one or two books at any given time, and over time I've read some truly fantastic books that have helped me gain perspective or improve myself and my business. Here's my recommendation for the next book to put on your reading list.

Powershift by Daymond John

You should know by now that Daymond is one of the Sharks on ABC's Shark Tank (does the name Chocolate Thunder sound familiar ??). This year, Daymond released his newest book, Powershift.

Powershift is the book you want to read when you're ready to stop with the excuses and start seizing every opportunity that comes your way. If you take Daymond's advice, you'll learn that seizing every opportunity means learning how to make the right impression, how to make a deal by creating a win-win situation, and how to make connections that last.

You might know me as a Shark on Shark Tank, but first and foremost I am the CEO & Founder of Herjavec Group, a global cybersecurity firm that protects enterprise-level businesses from cyber threats and attacks. Cyber CEO: As COVID-19 Surged, So Did Demand for Cybercrime Fighters

With unemployment rates plummeting globally, it’s hard to fathom a spike in demand for talent. But that’s exactly what the cybersecurity industry witnessed in the first half of 2020.

A recent study by Gartner revealed that as the number of cases of COVID-19 spiked globally, so did cyberattacks. From February 1 to April 10 of this year, there was a 65% increase in demand for cybersecurity professionals in the US and a 5% uptick in the UK.

So what does this mean for our industry?
