This is easy.

It’ll take just a few minutes.

But the results will be to the max.

Grab your favorite beverage, get comfortable and prepare to make a list.

Write down 15 things you absolutely want in and for your life within the next 10 years.

I’m not talking about bucket list stuff here (although doing your bucket list can be one item).

I’m writing about what you want and need your life to be in any and all respects.

So that 10 years from now, you look around and back and voila, what you wanted and needed has happened.

It’s not a To-Do list. It’s a “To-Have-List.”

This will unlock your mind and spirit

I note that a few of you rolled your eyes at this.

I get it. It seems so pop-psycho-babel-airy-fairy.

But there’s a solid and legit reason for it.

It gets you thinking

Exactly. You’re actually thinking about it.

You’re taking a moment to pause amidst the incessantly overwhelming business of life to think, “What would I say ‘Hell, YES!’ to if offered?”

Well…you can offer it to yourself once you think of it in the first place.

Even if your life is stunningly wonderful right now (congrats), you will connect with things you lost touch with or have evolved to wanting and needing.

For the rest of us, it’s a moment to step aside from the crazy onslaught of daily life and tasks to pause and consider.

To actually think about it.

Identify it.

Embrace it.

Pursue it.

Have it.

To dream and get excited about it.

To put it into our consciousness and let it germinate and grow into a reality of attainment.

It’s about getting off your current looping roller coaster and moving forward toward a better ride.

I did it and…wow

I recently did it as a gut check on this new life path I am on.

As much as I had cogitated, defined, imagined and intended what I wanted my life to be like a few years ago, I was stunned at what had changed, what I had missed or lost touch with.

Life changes (duh!), and therefore, our needs and wants change, often unnoticed (duh!).

My list

Nope. I am not going to share my list.

It’s personal, and you need to do your own with a blank sheet of paper (or screen) and an open mind.

But I will give you the basics.

For me, it was what I wanted to do and have in the next 10 years.

The impact and successes I want to achieve.

Things I want to be able to do.

The experiences and relationships I want to enjoy.

The wherewithal to have them (which includes health and income).

The day-to-day basics that make the most mundane moments something to be grateful for.

And…(this is important) they are needs and wants I have control over.

With one exception: My Number One is that I’m still alive. I can’t totally control that, but I can do a helluva lot to make it so.

Now…ask your WHY

Once you’ve made your list, now add the secret sauce to move forward and actually make your list a reality.

For each item answer this question: Why do I want this?

As obvious as the answer may seem, ask it anyway.

“I want to be in great health.” Why do you want to be in great health?

“I want to be worth $10 million.” Why do you want $10 million?

Keep asking why after every answer until you get down to the essence of your why.

It may take five or more “Why?” questions to get there, but when you do, you will find the deep meaning behind your why.

You will connect with it as something you deeply value and must have.

We go after what we value, and we live up to the standards of our must-haves.

This is how you burn the desire and intention into your brain and consciousness.

Look at your list every day. Pick one item, and for that day, envision what it will be like when it is so.

Also, consider, “What’s one baby step I can take to make it so.”

Before you know it, you’re on your way. It’s a must-have.

You have successfully turned your To Have List into your To Do list.

Oscar Wilde admitted: "Give me the luxuries and I can dispense with the necessities." Dorothy Parker would have agreed with Oscar: "Take care of the luxuries and the necessities will take care of themselves." Mark Twain advised: "Necessity it the mother of taking chances."

Telling your brain what you want is the #1 way to get started on getting it. Make a list ... Check it twice ... Gonna find out if I'm good to go ... ?? Oh yes, Paul, that end of year summary really showed a hole in my year. I'm repairing it now. Gave too much to someone who gave very little back so I'm giving less this year. Boy are they complaining up a storm!! Getting quite rude about it. That right there is proof of me having gone overboard on the giving.

I don't have a list, Paul. Maybe it's because I realize I've been provided right throughout my 89 years of living with all that I've really sought - in retrospect, of course, certainly not in much of the journey. Oh, and I don't make ten year plans, or even five year ones nowadays.

This is psycho-legit!! It gives clarity and purpose to one's life. The why part is an excellent tip.
