Create Storylines That People Are Interested In Following
1 Strategy
The one aspect of social media management that is really hard for me is the creation of storylines.
The best brands create their own storylines and capitalize on other great storylines as they develop naturally.
These are tidbits of information that can make people feel like they're an insider and build context around your brand. They come in the form of inside jokes, repeat messages from fans, replies to fans, and random moments that capture people's attention. They also develop from outside of an organization in the form of culturally viral moments.
The brands that do the best across their marketing have taste and they know how to utilize these stories well.
1 Piece of Content
Rihanna dropped this gem to announce that she'd be performing at #SBLVII. It immediately became a viral trend and storyline for every sports brand to latch onto.
The point that I'm trying to prove with this piece of content is that storylines and cultural relevance can come from just about anywhere.
If your brand is nimble enough keep an eye on the things that are going viral and remake them to match your community.
1 Idea
Be culturally relevant, but don't rely on too many storylines outside of your own brand.
1 Company
This company doesn't exist, but I wish it did. I wish I could receive a text message or email anytime something goes viral that is relevant to a particular category.
If anyone's reading this and interested in creating a media company I'll gladly be your first customer.
1 Question
What storylines can you create?
