Create a Masterpiece From Chaos

I sit perched at a gleaming white countertop, an array of skyscrapers and food spread before me. Minutes before, I chose my lunch from a dizzying variety of food stalls located in a temporary holiday village in the park near my husband's workplace. As I savor the complex tastes, a pair of hands slide around my waist. Squeeze. I turn around, surprised. And then my face breaks into a huge smile as I give my friend a hug.

Five years ago, I began experimenting with different careers. I visited a news studio in the early morning to watch the anchors film their daily show. I attended blogging events. Spoke about social media to a room filled with international journalists. Each time, I filed away information about the experiences of the people I met, each at the absolute top of their profession. And then? I began shaping my life around the information I had compiled.

Each morning, I glance at my to do list filled with items for both home and work. I assess my family situation, determining the schedule for each member. And then I make a decision about how I am going to spend that day. Rows of brightly colored silk tops hang in my closet, ready to be paired with darker silk jackets or formal attire depending on what my day will bring. Nothing is left up to chance in my life – boxes containing exactly the right jewelry to wear with each outfit lie ready to disgorge their sparkling contents right before I slip on boots and race out the door.

Do I know where I am headed? No. All I know is that each day links to the next like a sparkling jewel. And when I glance back, they all connect as if a master jeweler had pieced them to fit that way.
