Create the Future

“A large part of my role is developing an early careers strategy for the business, looking at where we can excel in our talent attraction and prepare the business for the future.

“At Mercedes-Benz UK, we have recently introduced some new apprenticeship pathways that offer a breadth of entry requirements based on where candidates are in their education, including the new Degree Apprenticeships and the Data Fellowship Apprenticeships.

“The Degree Apprenticeship is a fantastic opportunity for those who may not feel that the traditional university route is right for them, but want to gain their degree whilst working and experiencing the real-world of work.

“It’s a four-year programme through Milton Keynes University, which has recently been set up and is inspired by new technologies and industries, providing technical, creative and commercial skills for the future workforce. The curriculum is designed in partnership with organisations like Mercedes-Benz UK to help understand and meet employment needs and skill gaps. What’s so fantastic about the Degree Apprenticeship Programme is that it helps to build the talent within our business and produce work-ready graduates with advanced professional skills.”

“We have just held our Assessment Centres for our second cohort of Degree Apprentices ready to start in September. The assessment day involves them spending the day with us and getting involved with group tasks. Not only does that give them the opportunity to ask any questions but it also lets us get to know them more and properly assess their skills and competencies.

“We had some really positive feedback from the day, candidates felt comfortable and enjoyed the fun tasks they had to complete. Its nice to hear they felt at ease as these assessments can often be daunting for someone at the start of their career!

“We have hired five Chartered Manager Degree Apprentices and one Digital Technology Degree Apprentice. We are really looking forward to welcoming them to the business in September.”

“Another Early Careers scheme we offer is the Data Fellowship – a Level Four apprenticeship which lasts 15-18 months and is aimed at aspiring data analysts. With more data than ever at our fingertips, we want to ensure our colleagues are equipped with the tools they need to be able to tell the stories it holds. On the Level Four Fellowship, apprentices become confident analysts, able to turn raw data into meaningful insights that we can really act on.

“These Multiverse apprenticeships combine focused and relevant training, personalised support, together with a Multiverse community to ensure learners hit their career running from day one.

“Similar to the Degree Apprenticeship, applicants will be able to learn while on the job, but with an enhanced focus on data learning and laying the foundations for apprentices to become high-performing analysts, a role that’s vital in our business.

“Our early career initiatives are really important to the future of our business as they help us ensure we’re set up for success down the line with a diverse range of strong talent in the pipeline.”
