Summary
In Creo Parametric, you can simulate a gear ratio using the Dynamic Gear connection. With a Dynamic Gear connection, you can run a dynamic analysis, a force balance, or static analysis.
A Dynamic gear-pair utilizes manufacturing tooth angles to determine motion properties, including pitch diameter, pressure angle, helix angle, bevel angle, and screw angles. These properties are used to compute motion and kinematic and dynamic analyses. A Dynamic analysis can calculate reaction forces based on the tooth geometry at the location where the pitch diameters meet.
There are four types of Dynamic Gear connections.
Spur – Two cylinders that roll against each other where the pitch circle diameters meet.
Bevel – Two cones that roll against each other where the pitch circle diameters meet.
Worm – Two cylinders that slide against each other where the pitch circle diameters meet.
Rack and Pinion – A cylinder that rolls on the pitch surface of the rack.
