Create a data first culture to supercharge your decision making at all levels

Create a data first culture to supercharge your decision making at all levels

Welcome to the fourth video introduction and article from the Ticking Clock? Guys, in which we continue our leadership journey to strategically leverage #digitalization.

We are posting the critical steps for businesses and leaders to take in successfully adopting digital, through our unique Ticking Clock? digitalization model. These steps and the implementation model itself were based on our 2019 research that surveyed more than 1,800 leaders across three continents. (State of Digital 2019 Report)

Our aim is to provoke thoughts that lead to action by

1) highlighting the digitalization goal, 2) asking a challenging leadership question, 3) providing related digitalization insight.

4.           Restructure to a data-first culture

The goal: Make better decisions through better data.

The leadership discussion question: “What does a data-first culture look like and how do we integrate it across the whole organization?”

The leadership challenge: Achieving a data-first culture enabling real-time data-driven decision making for the benefit of your customers and your organization

Achieving a data-first culture is not as much about making data available as it is about changing the mindset of the way employees work. It is evident an organization is on the right path when its leaders move from using static slide-sharing presentations to real-time data in their meetings. Real-time data drives meaningful decision making.

For example, Ping An Insurance has leveraged opportunities to succeed by identifying a customer frustration that leveraging AI and data could resolve. Think about a road accident in China. It used to mean hours of delay waiting for an insurance inspector to arrive, filling out forms and then waiting weeks for the claim to be processed before receiving a payout.

Ping An developed an app that allowed the customer involved in a car accident to take a picture, that is then uploaded to the company. The app responds within three minutes with a repair estimate and then funds are transferred. It can respond this quickly as it leverages data for fast and better decision making. The company deals with approximately 50,000 accident cases a day and has accumulated over a billion photos of accident claims. This happens by leveraging data from the driver, managing risk and controlling fraud history from car accidents and accessing a list of repair fees.

As the use of data becomes integrated into an organization’s culture, leaders can make better decisions for all stakeholders.
