How to get the most out of the month of December
The month of December is often associated with worries about getting it all done on time, having enough money to buy what they kids want, Christmas events and making sure we give the right gift to the right people. But it does not have to be like this. You can create the month of December you want and have the Christmas you hope for!
Here are our five tips that will help you to get what you want:
- Tone down on the presents?and teach our kids about the importance of being presence, of giving and showing kindness and love to others. When did Christmas become our kids second birthday? Not to forget that it is actually someone else’s birthday! It is OK to set a budget on the presents your kids can wish for that suits your budget and values. But we can also teach our kids to use a different language when we speak about Christmas presents. Instead of what do you WANT, say ‘what do you wish or hope for’.
- Teach our kids the importance of Giving:?talk about what they can make and give to other people: grandparents, teacher, siblings, and parents. Have some quality time making them together: decorate glass, make cookies and put them in a jar with a ribbon around, draw a picture and frame it, sew a purse, grow a plant etc. This teach them that it is more the thought behind what we give then the cost of it. At the same time we don’t need to go out and buy more present!
- Change your language: try to dish the should, have to, need to. most do - to I WNANT TO, I would love to….Leave the sink and laundry and?spend some time with your family. I am sure family and friends rather want a happy you than a tidy house!
- Don’t let screen time dominate your Christmas: to read more about this please?CLICK?here.
- Yes, baby it is cold outside: but there is no bad weather only wrong clothes. Get dressed up warm and outside you go, to enjoy the crisp air, watch the Christmas lights and look up at the bright stars. Getting outside lifts the spirit and help us to feel fit and happy despite all the yummy food and sitting down.
- Focus on what is important:?Try to tell yourself and your family that we are very lucky to have a family, to be able to be together so try to enjoy the small moments you have with your kids and close ones. These might be the most important moments when you reflect back.
So let this Christmas and December be about how you have chosen to spend it and involve the whole family to make it happen.
I wish you a Merry month of December
