Are you a self-publishing author looking for affordable book cover design options? I'm going to share some tools and resources that could potentially put me out of business as a self publishing consultant. Why? Because times are tight, we're all trying to save money and I believe in the law that says you'll reap what you sow.
So if I help you it will ultimately come back around.
DIY Design Tools
Canva (free): Easy-to-use templates and drag-and-drop interface
You may already be familiar with Canva, but it's still worth mentioning for someone out there.
GIMP (free): Powerful open-source image editing software
Think of Gimp as a free alternative to Photoshop. And when I say free I mean FREE! Unlike Canva, there's no PRO version that you have to pay for. With Gimp you get the full program at no cost to you. The catch is there's a steep learning curve and you'll need a computer with decent power and space.
Self-Publishing Platforms
Amazon Kindle Direct Publishing (KDP): Free cover design tool
IngramSpark: Free Book Builder tool
Worth noting that you can create your entire book on these platforms, free of charge. Many people do, myself included. There are draw-backs depending on the complexity of your book but it can be done. Leave a comment if you'd like a deep dive into using these tools and maybe I'll post something in the future.
