Innovation revolutionizing the application of ergonomics
I want to thank Steven Fischer , Associate Director of Research for CRE-MSD (Centre of Research Expertise for the Prevention of Musculoskeletal Disorders) and Jack Callaghan , Director of CRE-MSD, for the opportunity to present last week at CRE-MSD’s System Ergonomics Collaboration and Knowledge Exchange Day. Richard Sesek of Auburn University and Murray Gibson, PE, CPE travelled to Toronto Ontario Canada to present, providing professional development for Ontario’s Provincial Ergonomists and staff. These Canadian ergonomists had expressed an interest in learning more about the science and application of multi-task ergonomics analysis tools. The title of our presentation was
Jobs Are Not One Dimensional: The Need for True Multi-task Assessment Tools
PRESENTATION DESCRIPTION: Most ergonomic assessment tools do not account for job variation. Multi-task assessment technology capable of analyzing jobs with varying forces, postures, and repetition/duration are relatively new developments. This presentation covers the nuances of assessing real-world jobs.
CRE-MSD was founded in 2004 and is based at the University of Waterloo and funded through a grant provided by the Ontario Ministry of Labour. CRE-MSD includes 46 network researchers across 13 research institutions. The stated vision of CRE-MSD is
"Bringing researchers and workplaces together to identify the key questions, find the best research answers and pass on the best knowledge that will lead to the prevention of musculoskeletal disorders at work."
