Got some spare money burning a hole in your pocket? Want to get some of the latest and greatest tech? Well, unless you’re related to Daddy Warbucks, you may not be able to afford most of the tech on this list.
Why? Because if it’s new, it’s expensive. And if it’s expensive, why not coat it in gold and diamonds and make it more expensive?
Here are some of the most ridiculously expensive tech gadgets I have come across this year.
Not loving the faux-gold look of the iPhone? Why not upgrade to real gold? British designer Stuart Hughes is offering one for a mere $20,000.
Well known in the world of luxury phones, Vertu has produced a signature edition in conjunction with Bentley, including Bentley leather, logo, and styling, for $19,400.
Also from designer Stuart Hughes, upgrade your dull titanium-look MacBook to a real platinum outer case for a mere $320,000. (Also available in gold and silver.)
The company claims that its fully robotic kitchens cook “with the skill and flair of a master chef.” Users will be able to select from an “iTunes-style” library of recipes that the kitchen can prepare. The consumer model is expected to be available in 2017 — for around $75,000.
Iconic luxury designer Hermes has teamed up with Apple to offer signature bands for the Series 2 Apple Watch. The leather double buckle cuff costs $1,500.
The Here One earbuds not only allow you to listen to music and answer the phone, they also can selectively filter out or amplify ambient noises around you, meaning you can turn up or turn down the volume of the real world. Starting at $300.
Not actually encrusted with diamonds, the Diamond HDMI cable claims to produce a better HDMI experience than any other cable. And at around $13,000, it had better deliver.
Samsung Family Hub Refrigerator
Taking the idea of a smart fridge to extremes, this fridge has three cameras that take photos every time the door is closed, so you can always see exactly what’s on hand, a family calendar, music player, and more, for around $6,000.
LG Signature OLED 4K Smart 77-inch TV
The highest dynamic contrast possible on a TV, plus digital sound, plus an OS web browsing experience combine in this ultra-thin premium TV that retails for around $20,000. But you still have to watch the same shows as everyone else.
Looks like a torture device, but combines the latest in neuroscience and ergonomics to produce a chair that supposedly promotes better performance, mood, and health. $8,500.
Acer Curved Screen Predator Notebook
A gamer’s dream with the first curved screen on a laptop, eye tracking, 7th gen Intel Core processor, five cooling fans, four speakers and 2 subwoofers (and a partridge in a pear tree). The company says it will retail around $1,700.
What absurdly expensive tech are you ogling in 2017? I’d love to hear your contributions to the list in the comments below.
