Crappy backhands
Growing up, I played competitive tennis moderately well. There were plenty of kids waaaay better than me, so at 18, I turned my attention to being a coach. A pretty good one - except when it came to 40something players with crappy backhands. For the life of me, I simply couldn’t help someone unlearn a miserable backhand. What I could do, though, was teach them how to run around that crappy backhand and smack a decent forehand.
There’s the strategy of playing to one’s strengths rather than harping on weaknesses - and then there’s the mindset to actually make it happen. It takes determination, but it also requires passion and has to be meaningful. Sure, you can do a lot of things. But what do you genuinely care about the most? Figure that out and you’ll be your very best.
