Crafting a Winning Resume: Dive into the Galaxy of CV Tips
Attempting to condense your entire career into a one-page document requires a bit of creative thinking. So, follow our guide to help you master your CV!
First impressions count. And a CV is the first point of contact you will have with a prospective employer/hiring manager, so it is important to get it right! Think of your CV as a marketing tool, allowing you to stand out in a competitive job market.
?
Let us break it down for you – what should your CV look like?
?
Header – The fundamentals lay the groundwork for success! ??
·?????? Your header contains your contact information – including your name, phone number, email address, LinkedIn profile and any relevant social media handles.
Placing this info at the top of your CV makes it easy for employers to contact you and sets a professional tone, helping you to build your personal brand.
?
Personal Profile – You in a nutshell ??
·?????? Introduce yourself! Offer a concise summary of your strengths (3-4 lines). Share who you are, what you bring to the table, and your career goals. A great personal profile grabs employers' attention and matches your skills to their needs.
First impressions count, so ensure your profile sets a positive tone – make it engaging! Review the job description and tailor your profile by highlighting your experience with relevant keywords and skills.
?
Your Work Experience – All your previous shenanigans! ??
·?????? List your professional work history, starting with the most recent job. For each role, include your job title, company name, dates and up to six bullet points of key skills responsibilities, and achievements.
Highlight your growth and achievements in past roles. Wherever possible, connect your current skills to the job description to show employers your suitability for the position.
Focus on including only relevant experience. If you must add older roles, skip listing skills and responsibilities that don't relate to the job you're applying for.
?
Education – Learning is earning! ??
·?????? Include brief details of your degree if you are a university graduate –place of study, duration, field of study etc. If you are still studying or you’re a new graduate, it might be worth adding this section before any work experience! Also add any additional qualifications or courses you deem relevant.

Remember, your CV should be concise and relevant for the job you are applying for – don’t feel the need to share your GCSE’s/A-Level’s results unless specifically asked!
?
CV Skills – Your array of skills ??
·?????? This section should consist of a list of the professional skills that are tailored to the job you’re applying for. Aim for a mix of soft skills and hard skills.
Defining your skillset on your CV will quickly show employers your capabilities and strengths. Consider adding personal projects, languages, volunteering, awards…just ensure they’re relevant and add strength to you as a candidate.

Common CV Mistakes and How to Resolve Them ??
·?????? Spelling errors and bad grammar: Checking over your CV from start to finish can be the difference between being accepted and being rejected.
·?????? Profile Pics: Your photo should never be a reason you’re considered for a job in Samsung. Do not waste space here.
·?????? Stretching the facts: Be open and honest about what you know and express your eagerness to learn new skills. REMINDER – exaggerations may look good on paper, but they will not look good if you cannot provide examples during an interview!
·?????? Having an extensively long CV: TIP – Try and keep your CV to 2 pages (or less!)
·?????? A generic personal profile: If your personal profile is filled with clichés, this will convey a lack of originality, which can be seen as a big red flag to employers. Be genuine, present an authentic reflection of yourself.
·?????? Poor formatting: The layout of a CV is the first thing anyone will notice when reviewing.
·?????? Not including your interests: It’s important for an employer to learn a bit more about you as a person, showcasing your hobbies will provide a glimpse into your personality and could be a telling factor of how well you may fit into a team.
·?????? Not tailoring your CV to a specific role: To show an employer how much you want a role, take the time to incorporate as much of the role into your CV. TIP – Pick out key words from the job description and ensure these themes are frequently referred to throughout your CV.
