Crafting Seamless Interactive Experiences as a UX/UI Designer Open to New Opportunities

Crafting Seamless Interactive Experiences as a UX/UI Designer Open to New Opportunities

Back in November 2024, with a baby on the way and Christmas coming up, a company I'd been with for over a year let me go, in there words "You're a victim of your own success", i'd finished what I came to do, but my intention wasn't to leave once done, it was to carry on, but that was never there intention.

It's difficult to speak about these things on LinkedIn, being such a professional network, to vent about a company that let me go could be unprofessional, but it's also a platform to share, to learn from, to acknowledge failures.

So I fell for it, I'd chosen a company who's sole intention was to hire someone full time to design their Saas platform, and well, I did that with amazing feedback but that's all they wanted, to cut freelance costs and hire full time, with the message that "there was ongoing work", "you'd move around", "where a family orientated company who like to look after our employees".

But what I learn't from this was beyond my expectations, because I knew this was coming, I knew i'd finished the project back in August, I was concerned about what I would be doing next as I waited for Q3 which was years away from beginning, but I found an issue in the company, something that would cut time and costs, so I discussed with the stakeholders that to save time and money with the costs of going to there existing design agency with there website, is that I could help design and build it for them, and so I was secure for a few extra months as I helped research, design and build there website and marketing materials.

With clients like Frasers Group Sportsdirect.com Metropolitan Gaming Silverstone Barbour using there Customer Data Platform, it was exciting to work on the UX / UI Design of their Saas platform and the build of the new website, marketing material.

So how is the job market looking?

Well since early December I have applied individually to over 60 open positions on LinkedIn, but only 2 positions downloaded my resume, the rest didn't look at me, but I'm waiting on these 2 interviews coming within January. I've seen positions that have been open since 2020 which leads me to believe they have that position open to increase share interest in the company with no commitment to hiring, I've had a few automatic email replies and believe it or not, one with the subject headline 'Interview Feedback' for a company I never interviewed with and the body of the email just being a auto responce with no feedback.

The UX / UI designer job market's pretty dead if im honest, I've seen many roles out there to discover they aren't or never where hiring.

Where am I going in 2025?

As we start to open up for the new year, with excitement of whats to come, I'm looking to see if any of my friends, connections are looking to, or knowing anyone looking to fill any full-time, contract or freelance designer roles.

If so, then I?am a seasoned UK-based Designer with 25 years of experience within UX, UI and Graphic Design, my expertise spans SaaS Products, Brand Development, and UX Design across diverse sectors, including eCommerce, Fintech, Medical Tech, and Hospitality, with a focus on both emerging startups and established organizations.
