Crafting 'Infinite Accumulation' - Liverpool Street Train Station, London
Ace Polishing Services Ltd (MCR)
Helping businesses achieve the finish they need to reduce corrosion, improve durability, and enhance cleanliness!
Over 15 months, we had the privilege of being part of something?truly special?– preparing and polishing the components for a stunning public art installation, “Infinite Accumulation” by the world-renowned artist Yayoi Kusama. This impressive sculpture now stands tall at the Liverpool Street Train Station, but getting it there was a journey that took a lot of skill, teamwork, and a keen eye for detail.
Our Role
Our involvement started at the Ace Polishing Services workshop, where we carefully hand-polished tubes, bends, and balls. This involved some serious sanding and polishing with abrasive belts to make sure every component was just right.
Once we were happy with the finish, we transported everything to the client’s facility in London, where they expertly fabricated and welded the sections together.
But our work didn’t stop there. We then went down to visit the client’s team in London to smooth all the welding points, correcting any little imperfections along the way. Finally, once the sculpture was in situ, we applied a super bright mirror polish to each section by hand, ensuring it looked perfect from every angle.
The Challenges We Tackled
Liverpool Street Station is one of London’s busiest spots, which meant we had to be extra mindful of working safely and efficiently without getting in the way of daily commuters. We managed this by being incredibly organised and flexible with our approach, ensuring everything ran smoothly.
A mirror finish isn’t just a quick buff and polish – it takes precision and patience. We knew the final result needed to be flawless, and our team’s craftsmanship was clear, delivering a high-quality reflective surface that brings Kusama's vision to life.
This project required close teamwork with the client’s fabrication team. As with any large-scale installation, there were a few surprises along the way, but our team adapted quickly to any changes, ensuring the project stayed on track.
The Final Result
The outcome? A breathtaking 10-meter-tall sculpture that now stands proudly outside the Liverpool Street Elizabeth Line entrance. We’re incredibly proud to have played a part in bringing it to life. The mirror finish reflects the changing city skyline, drawing people in to take a closer look, snap a photo, or simply admire the craftsmanship.
What Are People Saying?
“Infinite Accumulation” has certainly made an impact! It’s been turning heads and sparking conversations since it was installed. One journalist described it as “a towering, teasing sculpture,” while others have praised how it interacts with its surroundings, offering different perspectives as you explore it from?different?angles.
Why Does This Matter?
This project wasn’t just about delivering a beautiful finish; it was about showing what we can do, even in challenging conditions. From working in a high-traffic public space to achieving a flawless mirror finish, we demonstrated our commitment to quality, safety, and collaboration.
