‘Together we work, together we grow’ is the mantra that companies nowadays follow. Corporate leaders today understand the significance of employee satisfaction in deciding a company’s overall growth & that the industry is shifting its focus to the concept of “People overpower.” It is right that you need a hierarchal distribution with executives and managers, but appreciating people’s efforts is the bigger need of the hour.
HR personnel are known to be at the core of organizational culture, the foundation, helping it stand high & grow wide, connecting the majors of the company. However, the current dimensions of the world are changing & can be defined as Volatile, Uncertain, Complex and Ambiguous, altogether a VUCA world. The growth in this world doesn’t come in easy but challenges you to find your own way. Freedom, flexibility, speed, creativity, and a corporate culture that connects people with the organization is valid at all times. But it becomes even more important in VUCA times.
The VUCA world has definitely many issues associated but the solution to those lies within. For crafting an efficient HR leader, changing the perspective is what is needed. VUCA for HR leadership can be defined as:
Vision
A journey without a vision is like striking hands in the dark. You will not achieve anything despite putting in a lot of efforts. HR leaders should have a vision a definite vision, as it not only allows people to stay motivated and implement effectiveness among the employees.
Understanding
HR leaders are responsible for handling misunderstandings, miscommunications and other employee differences. Thus, understanding is a major value that each of the HR leader should have. The HR leaders are responsible for working upon the productivity of people which makes it much more necessary for them to become understanding.
Clarity about Things
Change is the only constant in one’s life and the VUCA world is ever-changing. To stay firm against such changes and not summon to them, the HR leaders should be able to have clarity about things. Having clarity about various affairs shall help HR leaders analyse potential problems and develop risk mitigation plans.
Adaptability/Agility
As an HR leader, you are not just poised to help people analyse their strengths but also remain as a Catalyst to enable effective decision-making skills. To take responsibility of maintaining such a culture among the employees, the HR leaders are needed to be flexible and agile.
Just the way Betty Bender has said, “When people go to work, they shouldn’t have to leave their hearts at home,” it is the duty of HR leaders to create an environment in the organisation that motivates employees to put in their heart in their work. And to be an effective HR leader in the current VUCA world we believe the above values are a must-have.
