Top things you need to know this week

  • Instagram adds video cutout stickers for Stories and Reels, letting users create animated stickers from videos. Creators need public posts and permission for others to cut out from their content. Despite potential sticker loss if the original post is deleted, the feature aims to spark creativity and new trends.
  • YouTube expands Content Takeovers, enabling brands to exclusively advertise on creator channels, playlists, and specific videos for a 100% share of voice. This allows strategic targeting during events like the Super Bowl, ensuring ads are seen exclusively by viewers on relevant content. While offering broad reach, it may come with a hefty price tag.
  • Google has removed Web Stories from Google Images and the Discover carousel view. The grid view in Google Search results is now a carousel view. These changes reflect updates to Google's documentation on Web Stories' availability.
  • Google unveils "Gemini," its advanced AI chatbot tool, boasting improved text and image generation for diverse tasks. Initial tests suggest it competes with top AI models, signalling a potential shift in web discovery and SEO practices.
