#DreamBig Took the boy to San Jose Tech Interactive museum today. Easily lost sense of time. There, we watched the “Dream Big” IMAX movie which showed stories of engineers who with their heartfelt ingenuity and drive are solving problems that create better lives for people around the world. Movie: https://dreambigfilm.com ??Several of these projects seemed impossible when started. One that stood out to me was the story of the robotics team from an impoverished school district in Arizona that went on to win the challenge (beating MIT). Their victory not only helped the team but also created many more dreamers who now dare to dream big and think - “it is possible”! Here’s the link to learn more: https://lnkd.in/d_GK_eQC ??”Knowing that someone believes in you even if you don’t believe in yourself is the biggest gift we can give to someone”. When we help one, we create a chain reaction. ??Dreaming Big journey is challenging- specially when you don’t Starr at the same starting point, and then get pulled down many times … but look for those who believe in you and keep Dreaming Big!

What happens when what you've created isn't moving in the direction you need? Do you give up? Not these teens in Robotics! “Squdl”, our VEX V5 gifted to The Wakaboomee Program by Eaton, to put it kindly, wasn't doing what our team had coded it to do for the last few weeks….. So, back to the drawing board our teens went. Squdl is undergoing a bit of a metamorphosis. ?? So Amy P. and Tijuandria Smith, please let all our friends at Eaton know that Squdl might look a bit different than expected the next time you see him! BIG THANK YOU to Ed Tech Unite for supplying us with all the pizza to nourish our minds as we bring Squdl to life. We'll meet again in August. Details coming soon! Do you know any teens into Robotics who’d like to join our team? SPECIAL THANK YOU to our AMAZING instructor, John Patterson who volunteers time away from his incredible research with Dr. He (Helen) Huang to guide teens in The Wakaboomee Program through the power of Robotics. You make our sessions so much FUN! Together, we can sustain our communities with STEAM education like FREE Robotics Sessions! These teens are teaching us that when things aren't moving in the direction we need, don't toss the idea - transform it. Innovation can change the trajectory and ultimately make the vision remarkable. Want to suppprt these sessions so that ALL teens can experience Robotics for FREE? https://lnkd.in/e3T3s8Nj #Robotics #communityIMPACT #EATON #wakaboomee

I’m excited to share this book focused on robotics and AI concepts with readers, especially given how fast this field is evolving. Thanks to Gemma Open Door for Literacy for supporting this book and adult literacy more generally! #ai #robotics #teaching #writing
A.I. and robotics are everywhere, from hospitals to warehouses, to airports, and even in some Houston-area classrooms! Introduce your students to these exciting (and scary!) new concepts with VELOCITY by Rebecca Rolland. VELOCITY is the first book in Gemma’s "Activ8r Adventures" series exploring the risks and rewards of new technology. You can grab a copy for your adult literacy classroom at https://bit.ly/3NTfWmm!

Saw this in my gallery memories and had to share! ?? Throwback to Dec 2019: Picture this—me, a B.Tech IT student, diving headfirst into the TechnoXian World Robotics Championship 2020. ?? The challenge? Build a super-fast line-following bot. The catch? We had only 15 days to pull it off. ?? The event was on December 5th, but we, in our infinite wisdom, enrolled on November 20th. Talk about pressure, right? We crafted two battle plans: Plan A: Use Computer Vision with a Raspberry Pi. Plan B: Rely on an Arduino UNO with Calibrated IR Array Sensors. Sounds solid, doesn't it? Well, the execution was... let's say, a journey. We worked on both plans simultaneously. But here’s the kicker—the bot didn't even budge for the first 8 days! ??♂? In a hilarious twist, we ended up building our own track before the bot even took its first step. Finally, on day 9, the bot moved! ?? Well, sort of—it just spun one wheel. Progress, right? Then, disaster struck: our Raspberry Pi short-circuited. ?? With no budget to replace it, we had to kiss Plan A goodbye and fully embrace Plan B. I split Plan B into two sub-plans: 1. Conventional Programming. 2. The fancy-sounding PID (Proportional Integral Derivative) control. For those wondering, PID is a feedback-based control loop mechanism (fancy stuff). I spent countless hours decoding this PID magic, but as the event loomed closer, it became clear: time was not on our side. ? So, we optimized our conventional Arduino code and fine-tuned the calibration. We even made our own track to test everything out. Things were looking up... until, of course, the bot decided to stop working an hour before the event. ?? Thankfully, it was just a battery issue. Crisis averted! When the moment of truth arrived, our bot stayed on track and completed the lap in 22.48 seconds. ?? We clinched 2nd place at the district level and were all set for Nationals. But then, COVID struck, and the rest, as they say, is history. ?? Uthayakabilan M Herthik Sanjay Santhosh Karthik Ruhil Sijaz R. Do you judge growth based solely on the outcome (whether you have control over it or not) or do you value the lessons and progress that rise out of the journey? ?? Long Post Alert ?? Lesson: Appreciate the journey. Three months ago, my 10-year-old son's VEX Robotics team participated in their first competition. (Those familiar with VEX will know that "competition" is a nuanced description, as most of the events are based on teamwork and alliances.) It did not go well. Their robot literally fell apart on the field of play, leaving just a brick with wheels. It was a tough night - these kiddos had worked so hard but saw exactly how far they still had to go to be one of the top teams in the region. But they put in the work. They doubled-down on engineering. They developed new code. They rebuilt, refocused, rededicated. Fast forward to last night and the same robot that disintegrated a few months ago finished in second place in the entire region! Understandably, the team was crushed, coming so close to winning. Only the two teams tied for first place advanced to the state competition. (Again, VEX nuances - two teams are first, two teams are second, etc.) While consoling our kids, parents reminded them about their journey. From the robot failing to being one slot away from winning the entire region. How they came together as a team and created something special. How they finished ahead of some of the most dominant teams in the entire region. What an incredible lesson for them as they continue to grow - to appreciate and even celebrate the journey. Winning can feel pretty binary - you win or you lose. But the journey provides critical context to measure performance. My son was still pretty bummed this morning, but I know he'll eventually understand the gravity of what he and his team accomplished. #kids #robotics #vex
