‘Craft Beer Style’ is not Craft Beer

American Pale Ale, Hefeweizen, Irish Stout, Czech Pilsner, and over 130 other beer styles and substyles are out there for craft brewers to make and beer enthusiasts to experience.?

'Craft Beer Style' isn't one of them.

The term is ambiguous, to say the least, and Michael 'MJ' Jordan, Brewmaster of Engkanto, sees it as a completely weak attempt to confuse consumers in the local market about what craft beer is

I don't know why 'craft beer style' is used to call their beers,” says Brewmaster MJ. “Craft beers have so many different styles, but there is no overarching term such as 'craft beer style' for any craft beer.”?

?“If the purpose is to make their beers seem premium with the word 'craft', then they're just trying to fool the market by pulling off this marketing scam in my opinion,” he adds.??

These rather misleading beers are products of an industrial beverage conglomerate that has repeatedly attempted but failed to capture the commercial beer market in the Philippines.?

In dismay, four prominent craft brewers in the Philippines issued a joint statement to protect customers and preserve the true craft experience.?

It's pretty much classic adjunct brewing, with minimal product differentiation, which is not what craft brewers do,” MJ explains.?

These adjuncts are things we don’t recognize, and they never go into craft beers. They might've added a bit of flavoring and mixed up the ABVs, yet the products remain uninteresting. There is nothing about our craft that you can find in these beers since they're obviously commercial lager beers, and they lack the refinement we do in brewing Engkanto craft beers with natural ingredients

The big boys make psuedo-craft to look but not taste like the flavor forward styles that Craft Breweries make. It keeps most people away from actually getting their hands on well crafted beers.
