The Cradle of Innovation: Tapping into the Spirit of the Bay Area
The San Francisco Bay area is well-known within the US and globally as a hotbed of innovation. It’s the birthplace of numerous technology companies that have impacted the world on a grand scale, and I consider myself fortunate to have spent time working in the area during the course of my career. The region’s future continues to looks bright; the Bay Area is #1 in US patent generation, is home to over 30 academic and research institutions and 12 of the Top 100 Global Innovators. It’s an incredibly dynamic and disruptive place, and an area in which I’m proud Thomson Reuters has a significant presence, with offices in both San Francisco and Sunnyvale.
Our presence in this region allows us to engage with true agents of change, driving the state of innovation through the discovery, protection and commercialization of ground-breaking research and technology, drawing from the Bay Area’s entrepreneurial spirit. It is within this spirit that Thomson Reuters sponsored the new Nasdaq Entrepreneurial Center in San Francisco, which will serve as a central hub for entrepreneurs from all industries to learn to build and run successful businesses, connecting them with an established global ecosystem of industry experts, mentors and resources.
Coinciding with our work with Nasdaq, we’re excited to announce our sponsorship of another initiative known for disrupting the status quo and inspiring innovation worldwide: the TED2016 Conference in Vancouver from February 15-19. The theme of this year’s event is “Dream,” and will be dedicated to “the greatest dreams we are capable of dreaming.” To share conference insights with global innovation hubs, we’ll be live-streaming the TED2016 Conference from Vancouver, with an event in San Francisco – the first of its kind in TED’s history. We will also provide additional, in-person programming to build and expand on the experience, featuring TED Talk alumni and other experts.
We’re honored be a part of this “cradle of innovation” in the Bay Area, and look forward to the upcoming innovation events. Stay tuned for more initiatives and events from and with our partners in this incredibly inventive region.
