Activity: ?? Blendata takes you to crack the code of the necessary skill for working in the Big Data field in G-Talk Lite Ep.6 with Khun Natnapat CEO and Co-Founder of Blendata. We have highlighted some important key points below:
??What is the current trend of Data-related jobs in the market?
Currently, Thailand's IT industry is rapidly growing and the demand for IT professionals exceeds the supply in the job market. This is due to the fact that businesses, including IT companies, banks, telecommunication companies, and retailers, are all adapting to become tech companies.
In terms of Data-related jobs, it is evident that every organization uses data in their everyday business. From accounting books in the past, data has been collected through Excel and evolved to the present day. Organizations use data to drive their business decision (Data-Driven), following the saying "Data is the New Oil", showing that data has become an essential foundation of businesses.
??What are the positions that are in the Data-related field?
There are various positions that are available in the Data-related field. However, the most common positions are composed of these three main areas, as follows:
1. Data Engineer - Their primary responsibility is to prepare the data in order to use, transform complex and diverse data into an easier format so that other users can be able to work with, and are also required to have some fundamental skills such as the usage of Excel, Spark, or Python.
2. Data Scientist - Apart from being able to create models, Data Scientists are also required to have business knowledge, in order to be able to analyze the data and know which data is useful and how to use the data effectively. They also need some essential skills such as coding, including Python, R, Scala, or Java. Moreover, Data Scientists will need to be superb in statistics and Mathematics to be able to create assumptions and analyze deep insights.
3. Data Analyst - The role of a Data Analyst is to analyze reports in detail to understand what the data is about and what it means. This involves breaking down the data into easily understandable and having clear pictures on how to use it effectively.
?? Any recommendations for people that are interested in working in Data-related fields, but don't know where to start?
Firstly, people that want to work in a Data-related field have to enjoy working with data, be curious about data and want to find the answers, and have strong critical thinking skills. In addition, there are many online courses available that cover a variety of topics, and you could start studying on your own or even try downloading a set of data to test whether you actually enjoy working in this field.

??How long will this trend of working in Data-related fields continue?
As far as we know, the infrastructure of organizations is currently involved with data and data will not disappear from the organizations. However, what will change is the format and the technology that we used to manipulate and analyze data.
For instance, 20 years ago, we used Excel to store data. 10 years ago, open-source technology began to develop and during the past 5 years, Spark has developed continuously until cloud systems and AI have emerged, as a result creating ChatGPT.
Another important topic to touch on is that people will not stop using and managing data because people can understand the target customers and understand one another better than anything else.
??Graduated from a different career path? Would it still be possible to work in this field?
First, you should have basic knowledge regarding the career field you are interested in. This point can be acquired from various online courses that are currently available for free. Everyone can decide to change their career path if they feel like the new career path is much more suitable for them.
Here at Blendata, we have employees that are from diverse backgrounds, such as Medical, Teachers, or even Industrial Engineerings, all of whom did not graduate directly from this career path but have a strong interest in working with data. Blendata provides opportunities and does not limit anyone's intentions.
??We are looking for like-minded colleagues in the field of Big Data who want to grow along with the company.
