Cracking the $100 Billion riddle...
Every year, $100 billion is spent annually dealing with the impact of poor medication adherence. That's $3170.99/second spent unnecessarily, every minute, every day, every year.
Medication Adherence is a complicated problem, driven by a number of factors ranging from Biological to Socio-economical. While MTM (Medication Therapy Management) programs continue to evolve, the core pillars still remain:
- Better prescription cycle management
- Tailored regimes to avoid contraindications and maximize uptake
- Deployment of customized packaging and tools
- Face to face interaction between the HCP and the Patient
Large scale initiatives are underway to cut the majority of this spend through EHR interfaces, information sharing and interdisciplinary approaches. Dynamic things are happening in the market as companies like CVS partner with IDN's and Delegated Entities to reduce risk.
Those neck deep in the riddle are well down their paths, others are sitting to the side watching for their opportunity to jump in. Challenges range from FDA to Consumer push back. Over the next few years, we will see a big uptick in the clinical literature that will indicate what these emerging models will look like over time and how our roles will fit.
I see the most sustaining model is one that integrates multiple solution options to enable better behavior at the consumer level. To do this requires a level of sophistication both in infrastructure and in messaging. Critical to this for any organization is the ability to balance market penetration both directly and indirectly through partnerships.
More to come. As I transition out of my current role and ponder my next step, I'm excited about what's to come and look forward with partnering with those to crack this riddle.
I welcome questions and feedback.
Enjoy the week.

8 年Agree that cracking this will need to have multiple, easy solutions for the patient. Very interesting insights!
