CRAC News Byte:
A new Linux malware campaign, Perfctl, is exploiting vulnerabilities like Polkit (CVE-2021-4034) to hijack servers for cryptomining and proxyjacking. Active for over three years, this malware evades detection through advanced techniques like rootkits and stopping its processes when users are logged in. It abuses compromised servers to mine Monero via the TOR network and can even hijack network bandwidth for profit. Perfctl’s persistence and stealth make it a major threat, emphasizing the need for regular system audits, updates, and network traffic monitoring to avoid exploitation.
