CQC the UK Health and Social Care Sector's regulatory body, have launched the third in a series of documents in which they ask for public input, to help them develop their strategy for the next five years.
They are hosting a Twitter Q&A on Wednesday 10th February, the same day that Junior doctors are next due to strike.
The BMA
The latest consultation also comes in the wake of GP's unanimously agreeing to campaign to abolish the regulation of their profession by the CQC (Care Quality Commission), at a British Medical Association special conference on Friday 30th January.
Hundreds of GPs gathered in London attacking the system of practice inspections run by the CQC, on the basis that urgent reform is needed.
The special local medical committees conference suggested an alternative, which would be peer-led. GPs also urged the BMA GP's committee to explore all options in which practices can ‘lawfully withdraw from engaging’ with the CQC.
GP's have also recently attracted attention for defending a controversial motion to opt out of care home visits. See here: Link
About the CQC consultation
The way that health and care services are used and delivered is changing. At the same time, the CQC seek to adapt to the changes and deliver their role as public regulator with fewer resources. They seek to develop a new strategy to help them become more efficient and effective so that they stay relevant and sustainable for the future.
What they are asking people to comment on
The views of the public, providers, professionals, CQC staff and other stakeholders. They would like you to tell them if you agree with:
- Their vision for regulating the quality of health and adult social care services.
- The proposals they have set out on how they aim to achieve this.
- The equality, diversity and human rights impacts they have considered.
