Latest Stories from CPOstrategy Issue 55:
City and Council of Denver: Collaboration at the Heart
Lance Jay, Chief Procurement Officer at the City and County of Denver, tells us about the power of cooperative agreements and working with Small Minority and Women-owned Businesses (M/WBE) and other states to achieve a more efficient future for all.
“If you’re always comfortable with the now, then you’re going to get left behind. There’s always something changing and always something new to do. Are there a lot of tried-and-true concepts in procurement? Yes, there are. And those will always be there.
But to me, it’s about thinking big, acting small, pivoting fast and being willing to take some risk and say, ‘We’re going to push the needle a little bit and be in a constant mode of learning, because if we are not innovating or willing to adapt and change, you’ll never know what you’re going to get unless you try something a little bit different.’ It’s important to move out of your comfort zone."
Microsoft: Innovation and Agility in Procurement
Microsoft’s Jayna Bundy talks organisational transformation, innovation, and the future of AI in procurement.
“Given the rapidly evolving landscape, especially around security and GenAI, we needed to be more agile and forward-thinking in how we manage our supplier ecosystem. There have been some big changes and some cultural management that needed to be done to support them, but we’ve started to see the benefits in terms of increased agility and innovation across the team."
Pan Pacific Hotel's Group: The Art of Procurement Excellence
Pan Pacific Hotels Group’s Alice Kwek on procurement in the hospitality industry, the importance of building a strategic function, and why continuous learning, training and curiosity have been instrumental to her success.
"Historically, procurement was largely viewed as a tactical function, primarily focused on cost saving and managing suppliers. Today, it’s a crucial strategic partner and integral component of the business’s overall success.
For us working in the profession, it means actively contributing to the company’s strategic objectives, especially in fostering supplier innovation and managing and mitigating risks that could impact the business operations. It also goes far beyond cost reduction, too, emphasising value creation as a priority."
DPW Amsterdam: 10x Procurement Excellence
Ahead of DPW Amsterdam 2024, CPOstrategy previews one of the world’s leading tech events in procurement and supply chain and explores what to expect this year.
“A lot of what’s out there for procurement events, it’s the same old, same old. It’s the same old speakers, the same old topics. We bring new topics into the community, focusing on technology first. It makes sense to prioritise innovation." - DPW founder, Matthias Gutzmann.
