Accelerated transformation starts here
With the eyes of the world on the COP 28 climate summit in Dubai, many leaders understand that tackling Scope 3 emissions is crucial if we are to meet net-zero targets. As such, procurement has a critical role to play in delivering on these commitments. And the need is only likely to grow stronger as lawmakers and consumers alike demand action.
Supplier visibility is an integral piece of the Scope 3 puzzle. This week’s CPO Crunch looks at one initiative that promises to help procurement teams get a better view of the entirety of their supply chains, as well as whether their suppliers will help them to meet their ESG goals.
Accenture and SAP team up to improve supplier visibility
Accenture has revealed plans to collaborate with SAP to launch “a comprehensive supply chain nerve center” that promises to improve supply chain transparency.
In a press release , the companies stated the nerve centre leverages cloud, data, artificial intelligence and analytics to enable improved visibility and risk identification beyond Tier-1 and Tier-2 of the supply chain.
In addition to enhanced supply resilience, the system claims to enable improved decision-making by taking account of factors such as the extent to which suppliers align with the buying organisation’s ESG goals.
The two companies are also exploring options to incorporate generative AI in a bid to extend the system’s capabilities.
Despite the importance of improving supply chain visibility to boosting resilience and ensuring compliance with a raft of incoming legislation seeking to improve both environmental and social sustainability. Preliminary results from a forthcoming Procurement Leaders study indicate less than one-third of procurement professionals are confident in the number of Tier-2 suppliers in their organisation’s supply chain.
