CPMA funded Food Safety research ready for commercialization
CPMA is proud to announce that one of its Canadian Food Safety Fund (CFSF) supported research projects, is now available for commercialization. ?
Integrated post-harvest wash systems for fruit and vegetable decontamination for reducing water usage and decreasing emission of disinfectant byproducts in wastewater stream, is a research project led by Professor Keith Warriner, from the University of Guelph, which benefited from CPMA’s CFSF.
The project aims to reduce the chlorine demand for wash water by oxidizing the constituents with hydroxyl-radicals generated from the UV-C degradation of hydrogen peroxide in a process referred to as Advanced Oxidation Process.Recognizing the commercial potential of this research, Clean Works, a Canadian-based company has used this technology to develop on-farm equipment that reduces microbial contamination and boosts the growth of crops in vineyards, and indoor and outdoor farming.
