CPM projects: Lotus plant in Hethel
Lotus has chosen CPM systems (Dürr Group) for the new assembly line at the British plant in Hethel, where Emira is assembled. From 2020, the British manufacturer's headquarters is at the centre of a complex relaunch project conceived to revolutionise the production of the brand's cars. At the heart of the final assembly signed by CPM are the ProFleet AGVs (Automatic Guided Vehicle), the first ones entirely designed for the automotive sector.
CPM's AGVs combine a very high technological content with a flexibility that favours the realisation of scalable layouts, which are also in demand by electric vehicle start-ups.
At the Hethel plant, 34 ProFleets with bi-directional kinematics are already in operation, equipped with a natural navigation system that will allow these self-driving shuttles to move to any point in the assembly building following predefined paths on a digital map. Routes that can be easily modified to suit new departmental configurations. On board each vehicle, two laser scanners will scan the surrounding area at 360° to ensure maximum safety for all operators.
The management system for the entire fleet is based on an open software architecture that allows Lotus personnel full autonomy of intervention at every operational stage, without waiting for support from an external team.
