As the CEO of Surgent Professional Education, it was clear that we needed to make large investments in better learning platforms to prepare students for the CPA Exam. As we explored options, we found that the millennial generation does not want to learn like the generations before them. When I grew up, linear learning was accepted - Chapter 1, Chapter 2, etc. until you completed all Chapters to learn. The challenge with linear learning is that it assumes: a. that students don't already know anything in the chapters and, 2. that students want to know the information in Chapter 1 before Chapter 2. At Surgent, we found that adaptive learning was the preferred way for students to prepare for the CPA Exam. Our platform, which we have researched and tested is based on first identifying what the student knows and does not know. With real-time algorithms, we assess the 'don't knows' and create a customized study curriculum for the student. As the student learns more, the algorithms works in real-time to continue to focus the student on what they still don't know. In parallel, we are able to forecast whether the student may pass the exam based on their level of knowledge. When the student achieves knowledge ready to pass, they are shifted into a review mode for the exam preparation. Our platform is the only 'true' adaptive learning platform for the CPA Exam. By "true" meaning that it is based on real-time algorithms. As a result, we have established a pass rate 2x the national average and have saved our students an average of 400 hours of study time. The linear learning models may still work in some areas of learning but for CPA Exam preparation, we have discovered a new advancement in education. Find out more at Surgent CPA Review.
