Cozy Boba Tea Store Design Pops with Bright Colors

Cozy Boba Tea Store Design Pops with Bright Colors

A second Bobaroma location, this time in Georgetown, Ontario, is finally ready for primetime. Having previously designed all the visual elements of the company brand and their first location in Sarnia, Ontario, we embarked on creating the interior of this new store with a clear vision. With a slightly larger square footage and more opportunities for creative work, we found new ways to enhance the brand by creating a cozy boba tea store design with elegant accents and contemporary appeal.

While we retained the dramatic and dynamic color palette of the first store, we lightened it up with plenty of white, which relaxed the look and resulted in a clean and elegant interior. We also kept the wood accents that provided a warm, natural touch that softened this chromatic combination.

We employed a few different strategies to reach our main goal of creating a place where boba tea lovers could meet, relax and linger over the store’s delicacies. First, we provided plenty of seating options to accommodate different group sizes and preferences. Minimalist chairs in contrasting white and purple tones are arranged around simple pedestal tables. Using multiple smaller tables rather than a single larger one subtly breaks up this expansive surface, making the arrangement feel more intimate.

Another seating option is provided by the comfortable corner nook, where a cozy couch is ready to welcome a smaller group. The vibrant color of the couch, along with the wooden slats in bright yellow, pastel purple or neutral tones, and the contrasting black pedestal tables that mirror the shape of the logo’s background, make this area pop and turn it into the focal point of the store.

The soffit, combined with a row of shelves and a group of vertical wooden slats, envelops this inviting nook, creating a “place-within-a-place” feeling that tempts customers to sit and relax while being able to take in the entire store with a glance.

A similar seating arrangement is complemented by a couple of mirrors that make the narrow passage adjacent to the entrance appear larger. Placing these mirrors across from the windows allows more light to enter and bounce around the room. Circular ceiling mirrors achieve the same result while breaking up the dark expanse of the ceiling.

Another seating corner that offers more privacy consists of two upholstered armchairs and a low table. Surrounded by windows, the area looks open to the world, yet secluded enough to feel intimate.

Finally, a row of counter-height chairs offers a view towards the entrance. Defined by patterned wall and floor tiles, this area summarizes key interior design elements: the vibrant wall color, the abundance of light entering the store, the elegant white furnishings, the wooden elements and the occasional sophisticated motif.

A second strategy we employed to create a cozy boba tea store design was introducing a few bookshelves for books and plants. This creates a familiar home feeling, conveying that this is a place for unwinding and comfort rather than a sterile commercial spot. The bookshelves were also an inexpensive decorative accent much needed in a large wall area missing a window. Mimicking the shape of the existing windows, the large bookshelf helps create a uniform look.

A general view of the store shows how we used repeating colors, shapes, materials and accents to create visual interest while maintaining cohesiveness. Ceilings, walls and floors each feature a combination of elements that mirror each other.

For instance, instead of a large monochrome expanse, the ceiling combines dark and white paint, yellow accents, mirrors and a variety of light fixtures that change from one area to another. Each of these elements is connected with another feature in the store—ceiling mirrors with their framed wall counterparts, yellow paint with the yellow couch or walls, circular light fixtures with the circular pedestal tables, etc.

All elements incorporate one or more attributes from another, so the overall design becomes a harmonious conversation between its different parts.

If the narrow entryway demanded a simpler entrance, we ensured that customers were instantly charmed by the bright yet refined design as soon as they stepped into the store. Lined with patterned tiles, well illuminated, and offering a view of the store’s appetizing mochi donuts right away, the front counter sits in front of simple yet impactful wood and metal shelving enhanced by warm lighting. On the far wall, an oversized logo finds a happy counterpart in the illuminated laminate one gracing the counter.

Neon signs enhance the warm, cozy feel of the interior and offer customers great opportunities for taking selfies. Wood-covered pillars section the wall, creating subtle visual separations between the tables. The floors alternate between neutral tiles, patterned tiles and wood, while the large windows flood the interior with light. Despite the simple and narrow shape of the store, the visual drama created by all these elements is impressive. The result is a polished, cozy boba tea store design that draws customers in and convinces them to stay.

The store’s logo is also a creation of Mindful Design Consulting. As usual, we paired its design with the corresponding Pantone colors for future reference.
