The Coyotes And The Stray Cat

The Coyotes And The Stray Cat

The other night when I walked into the kitchen, I noticed something strange on the deck next to the glass patio door.

?

It was one of the stray cats I feed.

?

He was scratching at the door like he wanted to come in.

?

We have 4 stray cats that I feed and give fresh milk to every morning. They rarely come onto the deck more than once a day. And they rarely get within 3 feet of me!

?

I like to keep them around as they are our only method of controlling the rats and mice that inhabit farms. (We don’t use poisons)

?

If I feed them, they tend to hang around our farm more which means they catch more vermin. ?It’s definitely a win for them and us…

?

He’s never been in the house. And it’s only been the past couple of months that he’s come close enough to let me pet him a couple of times before moving away from me…

?

So this was definitely odd.

?

As I slid the patio door open, the yelping, howling, and barking a pack of coyotes filled the air. It was loud. And I could tell there were a lot of them. They were only a few yards away from the house on the other side of the trees.

?

No wonder the cat was scared!

?

I let him in, not knowing what to expect. He rubbed against my legs and let me pet him a minute or so. Then I gently pushed him across the room to another door that goes outside.

?

This way he would be safe. And if a coyote did see him and decide to chase him, he’d have plenty of places to escape.

He stopped a moment on the driveway and looked back at me.

?

I swear he had a look of appreciation on his face, thanking me for helping him.

?

It sure warmed my heart to know that I played some role in keeping him safe and happy.

?

There are times in our lives when we are like my stray cat…

?

We are nervous, scared, or stuck in a place we aren’t comfortable but we don’t know what to do to get out of it.

?

Sometimes we just need someone to show us the bridge between where we are and where we want to be.

?

And that’s what I’d like to offer to you. I’d like to be your “bridge”, just like I was for my stray cat.

?

Not to try and sell you anything. Not to tell you what to do. But to ask questions and help you discover the answers you already have inside of you.

?

It’s my way of paying it forward… of showing gratitude and appreciation for all I’ve been blessed with… people, mentors, opportunities, and so much more.
