Cowboy Take Me Away… on the Three Sisters Motorcycle Ride!
Ranch Roads 335, 336, and 337 are affectionately known as the Three Twisted Sisters. The total approximate mileage for this road trip is 220 miles. We stopped for a few photo ops along the way, but the total trip was approximately 4-5 hours for us.
The Three Sisters ride is thrilling whether you decide to ride on a motorcycle or in a car! My co-pilot and I opted to go by car because of the hot August weather. San Antonio was averaging a 110-degree heat index, while we visited. So, as you road trip through Texas in August… be sure to plan to stop by one or two of the many swimming places along the Guadalupe river to cool off.
Tips to make your day a success:
(Special Note – There aren’t many places to stop):
- Bring a cooler packed with lunch, snacks, and beverages.
- Pack tubes, towels, and water shoes if you place to stop for a swim. Wear your swimsuits as there isn’t a place to change.
- Figure out your “pit stops” before you hit the road too. Be sure that your internal tank is empty and your vehicle’s gas tank is full!
- Don’t forget to pack your camera with a card – and to charge the battery.
What you will see along the way
(To Be determined by which route you decide to take):
- Lost Maples Natural Area – Spectacular all year long but especially in the fall.
- The Guadalupe and Frio Rivers
- Utopia – This place does really exist and it’s right here in Texas!
- Garner State Park – Located alongside the Frio River.
- Lone Star Motorcycle Museum – has over 60 motorcycles and fascinating history on display.
- Frio Canyon Motorcycle Stop – Leaky, Texas – Get your “official” Three Twisted Sisters memorabilia and other motorcycle supplies right here.
Along the way, we saw several places that you could go tubing or kayaking down the Frio River. In August, many of the local rivers are lower than usual because of the lack of rain causing floaters to have to walk more to avoid rocks in some places. This section of the Frio appeared to be full of water, refreshing and cool.
