A Cowboy and COVID

I miss my grandpa Grant. He was a cowboy to the core, and never really retired. In fact, he hurt his back mending fences at 85 and became the oldest person ever to file a worker's comp claim in Utah.
After a family member overdosed from drug abuse and tragically passed away, I remember grandpa saying, "There's nothing so bad that something good can't come from it." At the time, he was hoping their death would serve as a wake-up call to others. But, like many things grandpa said, this homespun wisdom stuck with me.
Recently I was on a panel with some fellow Berklee College of Music alumni and was asked, "what advice do you have for everyone during this COVID pandemic?" Immediately I shared grandpa's phrase.
I truly believe that we all need to think about 'what good has come out of COVID' for each of us. In answering that question, we will find something to focus on that is positive.
I'm grateful because COVID opened the door to meet new people via online networking, spend time with family, improve my health, and refocus on what is really important to me personally.
So what good has come from COVID for you? Please share in the comments below.

4 年Wow! Thank you Shantell Ogden What good has come from (I'll call it the Quarantine of 2020)? Well, I finally did something I always wanted to do, after thinking, "If tomorrow never comes, what would you do today?" After almost 8 years of creating custom, branded, hand made ceramics for several clients (while working 40 hours a week - nearly 3500 pieces of pottery), I set out to create what speaks to me. Out of the 40 days in quarantine, "Svitek Fine Arts" website (https://www.SvitekFineArts.com) was born, along with unique works in clay that represent my response to #Covid. Thank you for asking. #Transformation

4 年Shantell - COVID has reinforced my desire to work for an organization that is truly mission-based, not just profit-based. Life is too short to focus on the latter.

4 年#Covid has created a good opportunity for me to reconnect with people over the phone. It can be a very meaningful and powerful experience to check in and just see how someone is doing these days. Love your Grandpa's perspective on good coming even from bad. Thanks for sharing!

4 年Sage advice from your grandfather. Although COVID-19 has been tragic for many, it has also forced all of us to rethink how we interact with people. I’ve created some unique relationships via Zoom that otherwise wouldn’t have occurred.
