COVID19 Global Challenges

COVID19 Global Challenges

SAVE ECONOMY or PROTECT CITIZEN Asking the problem sound really icy and inhumane but it is the biggest challenge every nation is facing right now. Nations which gives priority to their economies first are now praying for their citizens. 180+ countries dealing with this pandemic, COVID-19 has now surpassed the death rate of the more recent outbreaks of SARS (Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome), MERS (Middle East Respiratory Syndrome) & Ebola. Some of the challenges faced globally -

  • Fractured healthcare system - No one is ready for such an outbreak, the coronavirus crisis has exposed many gaps. Doctors, Nurses, and other staff rely on PPE (personal protective equipment’s) to protect themselves and their patients from being infected and infecting others, but shortages of such items (gloves, medical masks, respirators, goggles, face shields, gowns) are leaving health workers dangerously ill-equipped to care for COVID-19 patients. While every country’s government is trying its best to meet current demand but for now it is one of the biggest challenges to meet the demand.
  •  Dealing with Resistance – Fulfilling current demand and aggressive investment in healthcare and infrastructure is only the first step. Several places of worship and religious events have been closed for devotees across the globe, but still the fight against covid19 is hindering due to social context, instability due to different religions and personal beliefs, and due to lack of trust in government. so, the question is Who are we as Human beings if we ignore the suffering of others?
  •  Unequal Impact – On March 11th, 2020, WHO confirmed COVID19 as a pandemic. On March 24th Narendra Modi (PM of INDIA) declared complete lockdown for 21 days. Before that several countries went lockdown in the midnight to slow the pace of the spread of covid19. Millions of daily wage workers lost their livelihood in a single week, some of them don’t even have enough money to survive in these 21 days lockdown and they don’t have an option of work from home etc. In fact, this particular pandemic could be 10 or 15 times more deadly for the poor. so, the question is Can we starve people to protect people?
  •  Seriousness at different levels of government – In addition to all the above challenges, there are still corporation obstacles within the government. For a nation like India which is too densely inhabited, negligence can’t be accepted. Even after 2 weeks of complete lockdown still, there is a lack of coordination between the state government and the police department, there is still certain area which is not even checked.

These are my thoughts. I welcome yours. Please share your thoughts below.

Well written Abhishek! Unfortunately we were under the impression that all great economies and super powers have established themselves on first class technology and are very much capable of dealing the present and future challenges but due to an outbreak of COVID-19 it was all a delusion and we realise that we don't ahve adequate life supporting systems. Technology in health care has to go a long way.
