COVID in Real Life: My 2 Helpful Tips

We just went thru COVID ordeal in which family member spent 5 days in hospital. That family member is now home and on the mend.
First of all, if a family member contracts COVID, go to drug store and spend $25 for pulse oximeter (Thank you #MattSchrader). You'll see why in a second.
Cleveland Clinic is our health provider. The Clinic has an amazing (I think, new) service called "Express Care", which is a live, on-demand video visit with Doctors or Nurses. On demand as in, they're 6 to 10 medical professionals waiting for you (see screen shot above). You have your choice of Doctor, Nurse Practitioner, and Physician Assistant. This service is different from the now common virtual appointment, which usually has a lead time of three weeks. I reiterate, this service is 'On demand', as in NOW. I think the co-pay for each video visit was $10.
This service was invaluable and we used it 3x as symptoms progressed (declined), including Thanksgiving Day. The medical professional could see and hear the person's breathing pattern, the pain they experienced with each wracking cough, and we could perform a pulse ox reading in the moment. Finally, the doctor said, "Let's be safe - go to hospital". My family member needed oxygen immediately upon arrival and received great care at the Clinic, and is now home.
I realize most/all people who read this are not served by Cleveland Clinic, and may have different coverage and co-pay. My Point ... I would strongly urge you to find out if your provider offers a similar service and find out NOW - before you need it. If available, sign up NOW.
Finally, from our experience, the providers love the service as well - each provider was very caring and spent the needed time to understand the patient and situation.
Again, I realized the wisdom of the adage ... When you've got your health, you've got just about everything.
