Covid question of the week: What do you miss the most in the esports scene in these covid times?

I have actually lost track of how many times I have been asked this question the past X months now. And I think a lot of people like me are growing tired of this question and the answers always seem to be the same. We all miss the live events, the fans, live networking opportunities and meeting up with our friends from the scene. 

But, today I gave it some more thought and I realized that for me and many others trying to build a legacy with a new brand, there is something BIG missing. The opportunity to gather those sought-after trophies. The hard proof of tournament wins that decorate the offices and give the staff a sense of achievement. These are largely collected at live events...

I had a quick chat with a colleague about it and at first he brushed it off as a silly thing, but after explaining why he agreed with me fully and here is why.

When building a new brand, like we are doing in SKADE. The players tend to get all the focus (as they should, they are the face of the team to the world), but behind them there is a group of dedicated staff members that put in 100% effort for days and days with minimal return/feedback. Their job is to make the players stand out and shine. They get their satisfaction from watching the results happen, watching players succeed and the brands numbers rise to new heights.

Of course, it is my job and everyone in management to boost people’s morale, keep them motivated and happy and all that. But I seriously think people underestimate the feeling of achievement a single trophy can give to a office environment. Coming to work every day watching those trophies, watching the collection grow and knowing you had a part in every one of them is a GREAT FEELING!!

I am not saying that every tournament should have a trophy, but when you put 50.000-100.000$ in the prize poll. Why not put 3-400$ towards the thing that can help push the teams behind the teams to further success? ?? More teams, more staff and more achievements can only make our beloved sport greater!!

Just imagine walking in and out of the office with this wall every day? I know for sure that it would inspire the heck out of me and my staff. Someone at Team Liquid knows what's up??
