Covid – An opportunity to change your life ?
Most people go through their life in a state of auto pilot. In a job they do not like, with a spouse they may not love with health they do not look after. Consistently paying bills, going from one week to the next with no plans. Just drifting and flowing and they get to 30, 40 or 50 and say hey how did I get here. Why am I not happy? Why is my life not the way I want it to be?
It is often only when we are facing possible death, illness, or a major life challenge like the corona virus that we actually say “ oh my god what am I doing?” “ What is my life all about?”
Well there is actually no better time than these current few months to take a long hard look at our life and where we are going. Review our goals, review our priorities, look at our values and what is really important.
In my work as a life and business coach and health coach/personal trainer I normally only find people hire a coach when they are in trouble. When the shit has hit the fan. Why not use your lockdown as a time to reflect on what you really want.
I have been forced like you to sit with myself and think. I do not like down time but it has given me many gifts over the past few weeks. Time to reflect on my future and time to review what I really want moving forward. I myself am guilty of doing work and jobs I did not want to do because of bills but this leads to a very empty soul destroying life. One which may lead to illness and other distractions to ease the pain we feel when we know we are not aligned to what our true purpose is.
I think the current virus is making people worldwide realise that money is no good without good health.
Money will not bring back loved ones.
A big house and fancy car is useless if you cannot share it with loved ones.
Having the nicest clothes from a posh store all useless meaningless objects which in the grand scheme of life mean nothing, they feed the ego.
So what can you do now that would prove totally positive moving forward.
Ask yourself
What is my dream life ? What does that life look life?
If money was not in the equation what would you do?
Where would you go?
What type of career would you be in? The statistics say that 80% of people hate their job. That is so sad going to work each day to something you possibly hate. Whereas if you find your true passion, it is never work it is a pure joy. You shine because you are happy at what you do.
I hear you say but I cannot leave my job. Well actually you can. Make a plan and decide what you can do to achieve your goal. Often people are far happier In a job on low income with passion in it than in a job they hate. Being stressed lowers your immune system and will eventually make you ill. They say 80 % of illness is caused by stress.
How is your health and fitness? Again you say “ I have no time to exercise” Well exercise proper exercise will potentially add ten years to your life. In particular resistance training. It reduces heart problems, diabetes, lowers cholesterol and makes the body stronger. It produces happy hormones and results In a better mood and reduces the symptoms of depression and anxiety.
What is your diet like? Do you eat a balanced diet? Carbs for energy, protein required for all cells and many actions in the body responsible for growth and repair and of course good fats.
Avoiding processed foods, sugar and toxins.
Are you paying attention to the following –working on your relationships, are you a good parent? How can you improve your relationship? What are your roles in life and do you get enough time to be in those roles.
Your personal development. Are you working on things like a skill, a hobby or reading positive books stuff that will bring you peace and help you to work on yourself as a person.
What are your core values? Respect, family, dignity for example you cannot say that family is a core value to you if you work 24/7 and never see them.
Time management. Plan your time effectively to ensure you have time for work, fun and fitness. Family time and time to work on yourself both physically and mentally. Make the time there are no excuses. Many people are on their death bed and wish they had made time for the important things in life. Do it now before it is too late. Always make time to tell people you love them.
I would also ask you to write up your bucket list.
This is a list of all the things you want to do before you kick the bucket. Fly a plane, scuba dive. Whatever you wish. Then work on making that list a reality. I always say that the best things in life are free. Fresh air, walk in the park, an ice cream on the beach. I think the past few weeks have made us realise the importance of the small things for they are actually the big things.
We always have challenges in life and it is not the challenge it is how we deal with it.
Event + Response= Out come
So to recap
What do you really want from life ?
What is your dream job – go after it?
What do you want to be remembered for ?
What would you do if you only had one year to live?
Now go make it happen. You will not believe the happiness that can be achieved by going deep inside and really asking yourself some tough questions.
You have a choice
Change or stay the same.
All of the above is covered in my life coaching book time to shine which I will make available to anyone for free. If you want a copy of the book I will happily email it to you.
