Like many from my generation, I grew up being a fan of Superman & then Batman. Today my son's a fan of Iron Man. Then we also had our own desi Hero Shaktimaan.
We look up to superheroes. Society expects them to save us from calamities. The Super Heroes are expected to rise above all obstacles, not think about their personal lives and be available 24/7 for helping others.
Sounds familiar. Doesn’t it.
During COVID times, this description of & expectations from Super Heroes matched men & women in white – all doctors, nurses & all caregiving staff at hospitals. They have been the biggest global superheroes of 2020 & 2021.
The PPE Suit is now the new Super Hero costume & the people beneath these suits are today's Super Heroes.
I salute each one of these superheroes - both men & women.
I was in the ICU for 12 days and that was an experience that I will never ever forget in this 2nd?innings of my life.

All doctors, nurses & other caregiving staff members went beyond their call of duty and helped me recover from a particularly bad bout of COVID. They gave me confidence, they inspired me to fight back, they held my hand when I was not well, they scolded me when I was not positive, they celebrated my small improvements and they hid all their personal problems and worked tirelessly on their mission to save lives.
While my primary emotion towards the entire team of Raheja Hospital is that of gratitude. There is something more. As children, we were taught the 3 magic words (Please, sorry & thank you).
The question is, do we use them enough?
Instead of writing anything else here, I have enclosed a copy of my hand-written letter, that I wrote to the Raheja hospital team, while I was still in the COVID ICU. These words are straight from my heart and I am sharing it, as is, so that you can experience & feel as close to a COVID patient as possible.
Finally, I would just like to thank the following members of the Raheja team for saving my life, for taking care of me as one of their own family members, and for teaching me many lessons of selfless service - ( "????" - seva).
Dr. Punamiya, Dr. Sanjith, Dr. Rohit, Dr. Ashok, Dr. Iqbal, Dr. Niharika, Dr. Ruchika Mishra, Dr. Vyajayanti Kadam, Dr. Prajakta, Dr. Elizabeth, Dr. Akash, Dr. Gauri, Dr. Kanchan, Dr. Naina, Dr. Mahavir
